“Well, you definitely should learn how to control that,” Murmur encourages.

“Well, that’s the least of my worries right now,” I retort. “I came in here because I need to get these ingredients, but I don’t know where to go, let alone have any money. Wanna help me out?” I lean up against the bar and bat my eyelashes at the Demon of Mischief.

He smiles, pouring himself a drink and shoots it back before batting his eyelashes back at me obnoxiously.

Brat!

“Oh, and can I also get a new Incubus while I’m at it?” I ask sarcastically.

“What’s wrong with the last one?” Knox asks, turning to face me from the end of the sofa.

“Besides a hot Demon hanging all over him, or the fact he didn’t introduce me as his girlfriend? Nothing, I suppose,” I say, grabbing a towel and picking up my mess from earlier.

“What?” Moni shrieks, flying over and hovering above me. “No way are we going to let this stand! I say we tackle them and tie them up. No! What about beating them with a paddle and then gag them so we can’t hear their cries!” she says with a firm nod. Pulling out a coffee cup, she tips it back and frowns when nothing comes out, setting it on the counter.

I give her a blank stare for a moment because I’m sure something will click here in a moment.

Her eyes go wide as she sits down on the ledge and regards me. “Rez! That might not work,” she says adamantly, like it was my idea. “Because some people might consider that a turn on! Did you know some people are turned on by being tied up? I just found out last night when Chester and I—”

“Lalala!” JP yells. Moni yelps and falls, and I drop the glass that I was picking up to catch her.

“Fuck,” I mumble as pain shoots in my palm.

“Thanks, bestie,” Moni says, picking herself back up and popping over the bar. “That was uncalled for!” Moni yells, and I hear someone getting smacked. JP’s yelp makes me smile.

I sit down on the floor behind the bar and check my hand that’s bleeding. Damn. Taking another towel that’s under the bar, I quickly dab at the cut before wrapping it around my hand.

“You okay, kitten?” Knox asks, his worry coming through our bond.

“Yeah, I’m good, just cleaning up the mess I made,” I say as I tuck in the ends and throw the glass and Moni’s empty coffee cup into the wastebasket.

“So who was all over Ryker?” Zeke asks as I raise back up and lean against the bar.

Murmur peers at my hand as he pours another drink, then back at my face, but he doesn’t say anything.

“Zissa.” Levi’s voice rings out as he enters the room.

“His ex?” Zeke asks.

“I thought they were best friends?” I retort, looking to Levi for answers. I know I should really be looking to Ryker for them, but I don’t feel like talking to him. And for some reason, I feel like I’ll get a more honest answer from this group than him right now.

My hand starts itching underneath the towel, so I cautiously pull away the fabric. There’s only a faint pinkish white line, and I’m momentarily awestruck. Nice! If fast healing is one of my powers, I’m all for it! Momentary distraction over, I drop the dish towel in the sink and walk out from behind the bar, turning my attention back to Levi.

“They are now,” Levi says as he watches me. He’s probably assessing my mood. I narrow my eyes at him as he gets closer, wondering whose side he is on. “There’s a history there between them, yes,” he confirms as he rubs his hands up and down my arms, trying to comfort me. “But that’s also not our story to tell you; though, I want to. I can vouch that they are only friends and have been for years now.”

I purse my lips, deciding I have better things to deal with, like getting these ingredients. “Fine. I don’t like it, but I promise not to go shopping for a new Incubus. Yet,” I say and lean around Levi to stare at Astaroth. “But I still need some money, and to know where this market is.” I give him a pointed look.

“Oh, I want to go. Maybe I can find some coffee there! I only have two cups left. Not even enough for the morning,” Moni remarks over my shoulder.

Astaroth gives me a blank stare, and for a moment, I contemplate repeating what I just said. “We will give you our brand that will allow you to purchase anything you need. As for finding the market, that is why I sent Zissa to find you,” he says. I swear his eyes spark as he mentions the last line, and I bite my tongue so hard that I taste blood.

“Well, I don’t want her help,” I grind out between clenched teeth.

“You will need her for protection,” he counters.

“Pfft.” I roll my eyes and cross my arms over my chest. Yes, I know how childish this looks. I am well aware this is below the actions of a person my age, but I don’t care.

“Bring your weapon here,” Astaroth demands.
