“Oh, shit!” Moni squeaks, raising up and floating up closer to me. “Are those dead bodies?” Her bark flashes pale white before she crumbles to the floor with a soft plop onto a tarp.

Laying between the stacks of broken boxes are two fresh Goblin corpses with their necks slashed and black veins along their arms.

“How much you wanna bet those are the real shopkeepers?” Levi mutters.

“I think you’d win,” I hiss, focusing on my arm. Black veins are starting to appear where the Goblin scratched me.

“The poison and the antidote are both made from elements of your body, right? I know you guys make a killing selling it. So, where's your stash?” Levi asks.

Knots uses his foot to gently nudge Moni awake, and she shoots up like a rocket, immediately shrinking and focusing on the Goblin at knife point.

“Levi?” I ask, a little panicked now.

“Rez. Pay attention to me,” he coaxes, and I bring my attention back to him. His hazel eyes warm me as he smiles as calmly as he can manage at me. “I need you to stay calm. Knox is going to help through your connection.” Levi’s eyes dart off to the side as I feel Knox come up behind me, wrapping his arms around me. “Moni, can you help Knots find their antidote?” Levi calmly directs her.

I love the fact he can easily direct all of us so calmly, because I would probably blow up, but as it is, I am able to focus on his kind eyes and feel Knox’s steady reassurance flowing through our link. And I do my best to block out the heat I feel slowly crawling up my forearm.

I see a flash of red out of my peripheral as Moni zips back and forth, frantically searching for the antidote. Another crash makes me jump, and Knox squeezes me gently as I hear Moni get into her enforcer role.

“Don’t make me boom you! I will! That’s my best friend you’re fucking with,” she yells.

“You don’t understand. If I help, they will kill my family,” the Goblin cries out.

“Who?” Knots demands, getting into his face.

“I can’t.” He shakes his head before it drops to his chest.

The crowd that we’ve drawn starts moving away hastily as Ryker and Zissa walk up behind Levi. In between them, they have the other Goblin wrapped up with a whip, his face bloodied, and he’s limping.

“Is that one talking?” Ryker calls out, nodding to the Goblin Moni is glaring at.

“Just saying he can’t tell us about the antidote,” Knots replies.

“Same, except we found this on him,” Zissa says, throwing a medallion on the counter. It’s tarnished yellow with a black sigil and two blunt horns curving up to meet in the middle by a Demon’s tail.

‘How are we supposed to know who that belongs to? I mean, the two curvy horns are unique looking,’ I muse.

‘Those aren’t curvy horns, Rez,’ Knots says. ‘Take a closer view.’

I lean in and gasp at my mistake. How did I confuse cocks with horns? Thank Jesus Lynx isn’t here to rub that in my face.

I hear the cursing and the shouts at my little faux pas and feel heat crawl up my neck as I focus back on Levi.

“Asmodeus?” Levi questions, reading the sigil.

Ryker comes over to me, asking, “How bad did he get you?” I stare down at my arm, and his eyes follow. “Fuck!” he curses under his breath. He pulls out his knife and pushes it against the Goblin’s throat. “Now, you only have two choices. You either give us the antidote that we know you have, or we kill you and get it from your dead corpse. Which one would you prefer?” Ryker asks very calmly.

The Goblin gulps and nods. “Okay, but we need protection. He will kill us and our families since we’ve failed in the mission he gave us.”

“Who? That Imodium guy?” Moni asks, curiosity getting the better of her.

“It’s Asmodeus, Moni,” Levi corrects her.

“That’s what I said!” She pouts and puts her hands on her hips.

“No, you called him a medicine to treat runny poo,” I state.

“Oh, so he’s diarrhea? Can’t he just wear diapers for that? I don’t understand,” Moni whines.
