Rez

After the ordeal of purging my body of foul—I can’t even go there—Ryker and Knox decide to escort the Goblins back to L.A.M.B.’s mansion. I'm sure they have more questions and creative ways of getting answers than we did in the marketplace. Thankfully, Moni gives me a small bottle of water to rinse my mouth out, else I might have insisted on going back with them. The only thing we discovered was they were told to kill the merchants, but the poison was taking too long, so they sliced their throats when they saw us coming down the path.

Levi, Moni, and I search through the stall and find a few of the items on our lists, but not all of them. Moni does a little dance when she finds a bag of coffee beans, but she says it wasn’t the jackpot she was looking for. She was hoping she would find Sparks brand coffee.

“What do you still need?” Zissa asks, scanning the area as Levi finishes zipping up the last of the ingredients into a satchel.

“I have everything on my list. Rez?” Levi looks at my paper. “Why do you have two lists?”

“Because I found a spell that repels a memory potion, and I wanted to make sure that we are protected against Emer’s threat. I just need to find a locket or container of some sort to hold the spell. Do you know of anything?” I ask, hoping that he’s run across something in his studies. This is kinda outside my wheelhouse of knowledge.

Levi jerks back to look at me in surprise. “Really? You found a spell for that?” he asks, slowly cupping my cheeks. I try to nod between his hands. “Have I ever told you how amazing you are?”

“A girl does love compliments, so I would remember you saying so,” I tease.

“I am beyond grateful to have you in my life, Rez. There are no words to express how amazing you are, still thinking of me even with everything else going on around you,” he confesses. A little piece of me breaks at his admission. Of course, I would think of him. He’s mine, and I don’t want to lose him or anyone else. Before I can say anything, he pulls me in for a gentle kiss, our lips barely touching.

“I love you… so much,” he whispers, before kissing me again.

I don’t know if he meant for me to hear it, but I do, and I deepen the kiss before reluctantly pulling away.

“Levi, I love you too. And I refuse to let Emer take you away from me so easily,” I say, while caressing his jaw. “So let’s make sure that doesn’t happen, okay?”

“You? You love me?” Levi looks comical, with his shocked expression. It’s like telling him you just met the real Santa Claus.

“YES!” I shout, and Levi gives me a crooked smile before he picks me up and swings me around. “Now, put me down so we can work.” I laugh. “You still need to tell me if you know of something that can hold a powerful spell.”

“I do,” Zissa speaks up. “But you won’t find it here in this market.”

Turning, I give her my full attention. “Really?”

“Yeah, but you’ll have to promise me you won’t tell L.A.M.B. we went or that you even know about this place.” Her icy blue eyes bore into each of ours as she scans our group.

“Why?” Knots asks, as he climbs over the counter.

“Because it’s forbidden for me to go,” she simply supplies.

“Okay,” Moni and Levi agree simultaneously.

“No, I want it from Rez,” she challenges as she stands with her feet shoulder-width apart and her hands on her hips.

“Why?” My eyes narrow. What’s her angle here?

“Because I want a girlfriend,” she admits, and my eyebrows disappear at her confession. Her arms drop as she holds her hands in front of her, giving me a vulnerable expression. Her icy blue eyes soften as she worries her lip for a moment before she continues. “All the friends I have are males. Plus, I’m trying to help Ryker get back on your good graces. People think because we’re Sex Demons that we should automatically be good partners, but it’s a hundred percent the opposite. We have no idea how to handle relationships because that’s never been a thing for us.”

She sighs and glances down at her feet as she kicks a small stone for a moment before giving me her attention once again.

“Please, it would just mean a lot to me if you would promise and allow me to tell you my side of the story before you go off and decide to cut off Ry completely,” she begs.

This was what I wanted, right? To know their past… or what their story was. And besides, I need those containers.

“Sure, no skin off my back,” I say and give her a brief smile.

“Great, this way. Don’t talk to anyone, or touch anything.” She turns to move deeper into the market.

“Where are we going?” Moni asks as she shrinks down to catch a ride on my shoulder.

“Onyx’s Mort,” Zissa says, making a sharp turn and squeezing between a crack in the wall that I did not see.
