“How much are you selling your normal Hellhounds for? I’ll pay the same price, but for him,” I say adamantly.

He scoffs, shaking his head, but he gets up and walks over to the little guy and unhooks him. As soon as the chain is off of him, he comes running over to me, and I squat down to pick him up. He trips over his own feet and rolls to a stop before me.

“Good luck. He will probably cause you more heartache than he’s worth,” he says, then has a quick look at my arm. I hold out my left wrist, and he raises an eyebrow and nods. “But it seems you’re already up for those types of tasks.”

I pet the puppy and notice how his fiery mane is warm but doesn’t burn… yet. I wonder how to train him. Standing, I’m happily surprised that the puppy starts to follow me when my friends meet me at the opening of the alley.

“Eek! He’s so cute,” Moni says, popping up to her normal size and bending down to pet him.

“You know Lucifer is going to kill you, right?” Zissa notes.

“He loves me,” I retort, and glance down to where Moni is laughing.

“Look, Rez, he’s giving me love nibbles,” she adds as he chews on her fingers.

“Moni, he’s using you as a chew toy,” I tell her.

Shit, maybe Lucifer is going to kill me.

CHAPTER 21

Let the Bodies hit the Floor

Rez

Okay, so I don’t have a problem admitting when I’m wrong, but I sure as hell wasn’t going to admit it to the guy that was going to chop up my new pup. Making it back to L.A.M.B.’s residence is an easy trek after the first five Demons that we walk behind are knocked off their balance and fall to the side. It turns out I didn’t have to worry about my puppy staying by my side, he heels just fine. His tail is the unruly one. It trips Demons, sending them falling over, and one even fell into a fire pit as we walked by. After that, they just scatter as we walk down the path.

I cringed after the first few accidents, but after the Demons turned and snarled at my apologies, I changed my attitude. Fight fire with fire and a charming hellhound.

He’s so adorable how he growls at the small rodents running around. I even catch him chasing a small stone that the breeze moves down the pathway. He’s so full of life and easily distracted when he runs around and grabs his extra long tail, rolling upon himself and forgetting we’re moving along the trail. Oddly, it’s so hard to come up with a name, but I’m hoping as I watch him interact I’ll be able to come up with something soon. I just know I don’t want to be too quick about it like I was with Lynx—but I was six then, so I don’t think people should judge.

“What the hell is that?” Lucifer asks as soon as we walk into the parlor.

“Your new puppy? You seem so bitter; I thought you could use a little cheering up,” I announce, giving him a big cheesy smile, but when he still stares at me with no expression, I give up. “Okay, fine. So, I got a puppy. They were going to chop him up into Hellhound bits, and I couldn’t let them do that!” I explain. The sound of something sizzling pulls my eyes away from Lucifer and down to my feet. My pup had an hour walk back here, and he chooses now to piss on one of Lucifer’s chair legs? And to make matters worse, his piss is eating away the metal and the fabric covering it.

My friends purse their lips as they scurry past me and down the hall to our rooms as I stand there to face Lucifer's wrath. Cowards. “So, um… You can fix that, right?” I ask as I point to his ruined furniture. “I have training to get to, and I don’t want to piss off a Wrath Demon,” I say, giving him a nervous smile. He closes his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose, so I take my chance to run while he’s not looking. With my puppy chasing after me, I can't help the giggle as I hear Lucifer yelling my name.

After quickly changing into a pair of leggings and a tank top, I meet Moni, Knots, and Levi in the hallway. “Does anyone have any idea how to get to the training room, or know where we’re supposed to meet?” Moni asks as we walk back down our hall.

Zissa leans against the wall at the end and gives us a salute as we reach her. “That’s my job once again. Come on,” she greets us as she propels herself off the wall and heads down a hallway we haven’t been down before. My puppy and Moni take off as they zip back and forth, playing tag down the hallway.

“What are you going to name him?” Knots asks, bringing my attention to him. He’s dressed in casual light-blue sweats, his hair pulled back with a hair tie, and he's wearing tennis shoes. Damn! I kinda want to rip his clothes off, but I notice he’s a little paler than normal.

“I don’t know yet. Are you okay? You’re looking a little pale,” I ask as I put the back of my hand against his forehead.

He chuckles and pushes my hand away. “Yes. I’m just a little tired, that’s all. Although, I’m sure I’ll wake right up when I see your ass moving in that outfit.” He smirks.

“Knots!”

“What? It’s a beautiful ass. I can’t wait to see it kicking ass,” he teases.

“I’ll more than likely be falling on it,” I mumble.

“Well, you have plenty of cushioning back there to pad your fall.” He laughs when my jaw drops at his words.

“Don’t worry, Rez; I will be here at your every beck and call, ready to rub anything that’s sore, including that wonderful backside of yours,” Levi says, winning some major boyfriend points as he comes up beside me and cocks an eyebrow at Knots.

Knots, in fun, throws his head back and laughs. I can’t help it, my mouth starts to water as I take in Levi’s appearance. His gray basketball shorts and black tank top against his tan skin make him appear more down to earth, and I love how I can see those subtle changes. Like how his hazel eyes shine as he jokes with me and Knots. It’s the first time I’ve seen him in shorts, and I wish I had a working phone, because I need a picture. I found a note from Zeke in my room with a charger on my nightstand, stating he got it to work, so my phone is charging in my room right now.
