“What the hell did we just walk through?” I ask.

“The throne room,” he answers, rolling his eyes.

“But what’s up with the different sections?” I continue, not taking that as the freaking answer. Lucifer chuckles, drawing my attention to him.

“It’s as Murmur said, Rez. This is my throne room, and you walked through the waiting area. Those demons that you passed are waiting until they get called so I can listen to their grievances.”

Lynx points to the drains in the floor behind me. “And what about the drains?”

A salacious smile slowly appears on his face as flames flash brightly in his eyes, scaring the shit out of me. “Those are for the ones I don’t listen to.”

Um…

Lynx purses his lips and throws up the O.K. sign before he slides behind Knots.

‘Now you want my help? Pussy,’ Knots teases, and Lynx just flips him off. There must be a story there. I need to make a mental note to find out.

“Aww, I see you picked the glaives. Nice choice.”

“Is this why we had to come here?” I ask, getting a little frustrated. We’re wasting time here, and he could have inspected us in the damn training room.

Laughter comes from behind the throne. “Of course not,” Lilith says, walking out carrying a small cloth bag with pull strings. “I wanted to see you guys off.” She comes up to me and pulls me into a tight hug. Feeling awkward, I look over at Levi, and he motions for me to hug her back. She’s acting so weird that I’m not sure if this would be the right time to ask her if we can talk about my tattoo when we get back or not. I quickly comply, and before I get up the nerve to ask, she pulls away and then she goes to all of the guys, including Lynx, Knots, Chester, and even Moni. “I wanted to let you know I’m feeling better. I already have Demons out looking for Adam, and I plan on feeding him his own balls when I find him.” She smiles gleefully at her promise. “Plus, I plan on working on the ingredients that I have already.”

“And the bag?” Ryker asks, his brows pulled down as his eyes shift to Lilith and back to Lucifer.

“Oh yes! This is for you,” she says, handing Levi the small bag. “It should help you get back here in time. From my calculations, you might have a way to go on foot, so I’ve created a small portal stone. You know how they work, Levi,” she pinches his cheek. I stifle a giggle as he blushes slightly and shoots me a quick glare when she isn’t looking. “I talked to Zissa, and the only place I know that’s close to your destination is the Blood Rivers. So, I can open a portal to help with your limited time frame. I would go myself, but my jailers won’t let me,” she says with a tight smile.

“Lilith,” Astaroth comes down from his seat. “You know you’re healing and you’re in a fragile state. We promised your mates that we would take care of you and make sure you stayed here,” he says to her.

“Just be glad you can help them at all,” Lucifer reminds her. She snaps her head to look at him over her shoulder and growls. “It was simply a reminder, Lilith, that you’re healing and still weak. No offense needed to be taken,” he calmly says. His eyes swing back to me before dipping down to see my puppy. “Do you think that’s wise to take him? He’s a menace.”

I smile up at him. “Of course he is, that’s why I’m taking him. Or… I could just leave him here with you,” I suggest, giving him a wide smile. He visibly blanches. “Just be glad I didn’t call him what I wanted to.”

“Do I even want to ask,” Lucifer drawls and raises an eyebrow.

“No, but I’m gonna share anyway. I wanted to call him Church but didn’t think you would like yelling that in Hell,” I say, and sure enough the floor shakes, and Lucifer clenches his jaw, flashing his eyes in warning.

“I said I didn’t call him that. See, I’m playing fair.” I smirk and turn my attention back to Lilith.

Lilith pushes Astaroth away from her and runs her hands down her black pantsuit before glancing over our group once more. “Is everyone ready?”

“Wait,” Murmur states, coming over to me. “I thought we talked about this,” he says, pulling me away from my group. “He should be resting,” he emphasizes.

I pull my arm from his grasp and stand up straighter, staring him in the eyes. “First of all, it’s his choice. Second, he’s a Door Knight, and his purpose is to protect what is his. And third, he’s my man, and I’m going to support him. So unless you have a suggestion on how I can help do that, then you have no say.” I roll my neck and walk away.

“Okay. I have an idea,” he admits, and I stop in my tracks, slowly turning to face him once again.

“I’m listening.” This shit better be good because time is short. At least Lilith is helping cut down on time.

“It’s not going to be easy for you, but it will work twofold. Your defensive shield?”

“Yeah?” I question. Where is he going with this?

“Place it around Knots like you did with the knife. I noticed some things when I was poking around inside that head of yours. If I’m correct, the signature I got off of it works not only as a defensive measure, but as a protective one as well. Think of it as a bubble. If you can place even a thin layer around him, it could help. Since the spell in the Demstone helps slow down the effects of being down here, maybe your shield can help by reflecting it off of him.”

I can help Knots? What if I’m not strong enough?

My hands start to sweat, and I feel myself rocking.
