Alexis thought she was dreaming by this point. The notion of kids fathered by Magnus warmed her heart. He was certain with his words, and he wasn’t spouting them off to impress her.

Wildly, they ran around together like teenagers in love, winning prizes for each other across various games. Their carriage on the Ferris wheel stopped when they reached the peak, and it was there they held each other for a few minutes, relishing the view and one another's company.

At the end of the night, a local band played well-known hits. Alexis and Magnus tore up the dance floor with cheers from the pride. She was falling in love with him. There was no doubt of it any longer.

When they returned to his home, she collapsed on the bed from exhaustion, but her mind still ran rampant from all they did on this memorable day.

“So, are you still thinking of heading back to the city?” he asked.

Alexis’s answer was delayed by way of distraction as Magnus unbuttoned his shirt.

“I think I’ll stay another night.”

“Are you sure? Not that I don’t want you here, but I know you have work scheduled.”

“Well, I’ve just sent a message to my assistant to let her know I’m taking tomorrow off.”

He smiled at her, taking a seat on the bed. His fingers ran gently over her smooth cheeks. She laid a hand on top of his.

“I thought about what you said earlier about dialing things down when it came to work,” she said. “It really meant a lot, and it made me realize that I should do the same.”

“It’s a big step for every entrepreneur to take a step back from work,” he replied. “But you deserve to reap the benefits of your hard work.”

“I couldn’t have put it better myself,” she said. “It feels weird. I’ve always been so intense about work.” She tugged on his shirt collar until their lips were inches apart. “But you’re worth it, Magnus.”

SEVENTEEN

MAGNUS

The day of the next Full Moon Masquerade dawned as the sun peaked its yellow head over the horizon. Magnus Kade was already awake, a cup of hot coffee in hand as he watched the sunrise.

He was pondering tonight’s event. The last time it happened, he was merely seeking a release and ended up finding his fated mate.

Things were different for him now that he had his sights set on that woman, not just for sex but for life. A true mate in every sense of the word.

He knew they were still in the beginnings of their relationship, and he had no intentions of fumbling what could be his greatest accomplishment.

Things were going well, there was no doubt in his mind, but he couldn’t simply ignore the event he had attended for all of his adult life. As alpha, he at least had to make an appearance.

Alexis entered the bedroom, wearing his shirt from the previous day. She greeted him with a kiss and rested her head on his shoulder.

“Do you know what today is?” he asked.

“I do,” she said. “The Full Moon Masquerade. My friends are dead set on going again.”

“And what do you think?”

“I’m thinking … Would it be wrong for us if we both went and hooked up there again? I had a lot of fun that night.”

“I know you did.” Magnus chuckled. “I wouldn’t mind a repeat.”

The mere thought of it had his heart racing. He anticipated stepping back in time to that first night, not to change anything that happened but to experience that initial meeting with Alexis twice.

“But wait, isn’t there some rule in place? That it’s strictly for singles only?” she asked.

“Well, technically, yes, but the thing is that you and I aren't officially mated from the pride’s point of view. I say it’ll be fine. I should be there just to make an appearance, at least, as the alpha.”

“Oh, this is going to be so exciting!” Alexis squealed, clapping her hands together in delight. “You know what we should do?”
