‘‘Well, you don’t cherish and love her enough, and eventually, you lose her.’’

‘‘Fuck you.’’

He laughed again. ‘‘Calm down, Micah. Let me see where she could’ve gone. She’s on foot, and it’s a blizzard, I doubt she could’ve gone far.’’

He was silent for a moment, but it felt like hours.

‘‘Okay, two options. Either she went towards the tourist area, as there are a lot of inns there, or she went to the gas station. But, they’re on the opposite side.’’

My jaw clenched. ‘‘So, she could’ve called the cops either way.’’

‘‘If she made it to either destination, likely. I don’t know how likely it is that they’ve found her yet, though. Half of the city got a power outage.’’

‘‘Send me the coordinates to both, I’ll check it out.’’

Not even a minute later, my phone buzzed and I cut the call short.

I was already heading towards the gas station, so that was my first stop. She’d better pray that I find her before the cops do. I took her once, and I’ll take her again, but it would be far more difficult. And if she managed to call the cops already, then they’d know about the cabin since it was fairly close.

Fuck.

Storm, you little devil.

I promise you, the moment I lay my hands on you again, you’ll wish you acted the part of a sweet, behaved girl.

If she thought that I was an evil bastard when we were in the cabin, she'd come to realize that there wasn’t a word that could describe just how evil I could be.

I glanced at the passenger's seat.

My gun was there, ready to shoot.

May the Lord help those who dare to keep me away from her.

I’d made my peace with going to Hell long ago. Killing another couple of people wasn’t going to change a damn thing. There was nothing I wouldn’t do to ensure keeping her by my side.

The first plan was just to ruin her, and then set her free.

But now?

She was brave enough to try to defy me, so she'd be strong enough to endure what I had in store for her. The only way we’d be separated again would be if someone killed me. As long as I was alive, she belonged to me, and no one could dispute that.

I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel anxiously. I prayed to God that she was at the gas station, since the drive to the resorts would be for another hour, maybe two. The weather wasn’t getting better, either. The later it got, the worse conditions became.

I saw the gas station and parked away from it. I didn’t want anyone noticing me or her trying to escape again.

With the gun in my hands, and a smile on my face, I made my way towards the door.

All the lights were shut down, possibly due to a power outage.

Somehow, whenever there was a power outage, it ended up working out for me.

Then, I inched closer towards the door, careful not to be noticed. From the corner of my eye, I saw a candle in the far corner of the gas station, and her beautiful hair.

She was here.

I couldn’t describe the happiness I felt even if I wanted to.

It consumed me, and I couldn’t control my actions.
