A man took a seat next to me, and I didn’t dare to look at him. I didn’t need to. I knew exactly who he was.

He wasn’t trying, but he was emitting power, dominance, and terror all at once. It was a disturbing feeling I hadn’t felt since seeing Davorin and even back then, it felt different. Unlike the immense desire I felt to make Adrik Ivanov mine, I wanted nothing but to run away from this man.

“You’re a hard man to track down,” I said, masking my true feelings.

A low chuckle came from my right side, making my heart beat rapidly. “I apologize, darling. I had other matters to attend.”

“What a gentleman.” My voice was thick with sarcasm. “Keeping a lady waiting says a lot about your personality.”

“I can assure you, it will not happen again. You have my full attention now, darling.”

Then, I finally turned to look at him.

His elbow was propped on the bar, his hand holding his face. His eyes were burning into mine, such an intense look that it almost made me back down and look away first. It was true: one of his eyes was blue, the other one brown. However, what stood out was that enormous tattoo.

He wore a black shirt with the first two buttons undone. Right at the center of his throat was a snake’s head. It had the same eye colors as the man next to me. The tongue was out, and, although the snake wasn’t real, it made me feel very anxious, which never happened.

This was, by far, the most dangerous man I’d ever encountered.

“You did something.” I swallowed the knot in my throat, and the passive expression remained on my face. “To be precise, you took something away from me.”

He raised a curious eyebrow, intrigued. “What might that be, darling?”

“Davorin.”

At first, he merely looked at me as if I’d grown a second head. Then, he burst into a fit of laughter. It made Rachel give him a confused glance, and a few people turned around, though he didn’t seem bothered.

“Is there a particular reason you’re interested in that person?” He stopped laughing, but a smile overtook his face. “Don’t get me wrong, darling, that man has a lot of qualities, but he truly isn’t a good fit for you.”

“And you are?” I didn’t know where it came from. Perhaps I’d looked into it too deeply to think he was flirting, but the way his eyes were focusing on my lips too much, or how they drifted to my exposed legs, wasn’t something I could overlook.

“Yes.” Where the hell did that confidence come from? “I would definitely treat you better.”

It was my turn to laugh. I raised an amused eyebrow with a smile that was hidden behind the glass. “Sadly, I didn’t want to meet you to discuss a nonexistent romance between us. I need you to get him out of prison, however you got him in.”

“I’m not sure you understand how negotiating works. I need something in return.”

“I know how much you love money, and I happen to have a lot of it. Give me a number.”

A small squeal of surprise slipped my lips when his hand grabbed my chair, pulling me closer to him. His face was inches away from mine, and it made me sick. His perfume was too strong, making me nauseous.

“Sorry to break it to you, darling, but I don’t want money from you.”

“Then?”

“Be mine.”

“Fuck you.”

“Is that a no?” He chuckled, placing his hand on my bare thigh.

“Of course it’s a fucking no.” I pushed his hand off. The feeling of him touching me made my skin crawl.

“Then sleep with me ten times.”

“Let’s make it fifteen, and you tell me who hired you to put him behind bars.”

“Oh, for that kind of information? Thirty, darling.”
