No, you didn’t. And you are most certainly the most difficult person I’ve ever met.

Juliette

Why did you send me back into my condo?

Mac

Because I wanted to get to use your phone number and pretend that I got to text you before running into you again.

The stupid smile on my face wouldn’t go away and I shook my head to myself as I typed out another response to him. We were standing across the hall from one another with only our doors separating us as we texted back and forth.

Juliette

Can I come out yet?

Mac

Nope. I’m not done yet.

What are you doing this evening?

Juliette

I was going to go get something to eat and then go to Orchid City Ice Rink for the public skate later.

Mac

Yuck. You want to go skate in circles with a bunch of people who are holding on to the boards or look like a newborn giraffe on skates?

Juliette

Don’t sound like such a pompous asshole. Not all of us have access to a private practice facility. And if you don’t remember, there was a time in your life when you looked like one of those newborn giraffes, so be kind.

Mac

Let me come with you.

My eyes widened as I stared down at my phone, reading his message three times. It was the last response I expected from him.

Mac

I know you’re there, Juliette. Don’t go silent on me now.

Juliette

Why would you want to come along? You don’t want to go skate in circles with the public.

Mac

You’re right. It sounds fucking boring, but if you’re going I want to go too.

Plus, I haven’t eaten yet either.

I couldn’t help the nervousness that raced through me.

Juliette

Didn’t you just get home from practice? You’re probably exhausted.
