For a few calculated moments, I just stared at him. He'd said it all, anyway. It was absolute bullshit. The entire team was already in disarray due to the time constraint, and now I had to tell them we would be short by four weeks.

Lovely.

"Get out, Jeff,” I muttered. “I have to go tell everyone we're all probably going to lose our jobs due to your fuck up because we won't be able to deliver." I hoped he could see the anger in my eyes.

"Come on, Pegg," Jeff sighed, standing up, and walking to the door. "You've got a brain between those ears of yours. I'm sure you'll figure something out."

I glared at him, pointing to the door. "Out!"

Chuckling, he blew me a kiss and left. Heaving out a sigh, I held my head in my hands. Don't get me wrong—I loved a good project as much as the next person, but not to the detriment of my health. This meant that there would not be any time for anything that would not contribute to ensuring the game's delivery was a hundred percent. For the next four months, things like beauty sleep and personal time would become non-existent.

We were all going to be fucking drained after this.

And I supposed it did help that the project director was my friend. Jeff and I have been friends since I started working at OceansPlay. He’d been the one to push for my promotion after Happy Bird became a global hit because, according to him, I was “a fucking genius,” and the world needed to “experience” me.

He was a cool guy, so I knew he'd meant it when he said it was beyond his control. If there was anything he could do in our favor, I had no doubt he would do it without a second thought.

A knock sounded at my door.

Ah, finally, someone who knows how to knock.

"Come in,” I called.

The door pushed open slightly, and a second later, Felicity poked her head in through the small space. My mood immediately brightened as a smile played on my lips.

Her cheeks were darkened with a pinkish hue, and her glasses rested on her nose. "Hi."

"Hello." This was the first time we were speaking since last night. I’d seen her, obviously, because thankfully her desk was just in front of my office, but she'd been avoiding talking to me. No doubt because I'd touched her very nice, very hard nipple last night.

"You want to come in, or are you just going to stand there?" I teased gently.

With an uncertain smile, she straightened, then pushed the door open completely before walking in, sketchbook resting on her hand. "Thank you. My desk is really uncomfortable, and if I'm going to get any work done, I need to be completely at ease."

"Sure." I gestured to a seat. "Knock yourself out. My desk and I are at your service."

She smiled, gathering her high-waist, ankle-length, plaid skirt around her as she lowered to the seat. "Thank you again. I won't disturb you, don't worry."

Aww. Isn't she cute? "But I want you to disturb me."

Her head lifted, her eyes meeting mine. Would she recognize the teasing in my voice, or would she take it as another reason to run?

She looked confused. "Are you messing with me right now? I thought you had work to do?"

"I do, but I'd rather talk to you."

Her cheeks darkened. "I mean, I saw Jeff walking out of here. I thought something happened."

Shit. I completely forgot about that. "Right. So, it turns out we don't have five months to complete the game like we thought. It's now four."

"What?" she gawked. "But…that's not even remotely feasible."

"It has to be, or there's a possibility that we might lose our jobs."

Well, I wasn't sure about that, but it was better to be prepared for the worst.

Felicity's countenance visibly changed and she fell back against the chair, her lips twisted downwards into a frown. "But…"

I knew nobody wanted to lose their jobs, but she looked like I'd just told her I was taking away her favorite pet hamster.
