"Cock?" she finished, laughing at the horrified look on my face. "Come on, Fliss. Just tell me already. It's not every day that such amazing things happen to you."
Maddy could be a mighty pain in the ass, mostly because she loved embarrassing me, but she was right. It was amazing, and she was my only friend, anyway. If I couldn't tell her, who would I tell? And if I was being honest, I was itching to tell someone.
"Okay,” I finally exhaled.
Maddy dropped her spoon and leaned in, excitement evident on her face. If I wasn't already embarrassed, I would've laughed.
"Well, we kissed, like I said,” I mumbled. “…and he touched my breasts for a bit. And then he touched…me." I bit my bottom lip. "There."
"Fuck. You just turned me on."
Hell, even I was turned on just thinking about it. I swear I'd never seen Maddy's eyes so wide.
"Go on." She gestured urgently with a hand, a wide grin on her face. "How did he do it? Did you like it? Did you get off?"
I almost melted as I nodded.
Unexpectedly, her girly squeal echoed around the cafeteria, earning us a few confused looks. The worst part was I didn't even mind. I was as excited as Maddy, though judging from her reaction, that was debatable.
It was like Aaron had unlocked a part of me I didn't know existed. For the first time in a very long time, I was excited about someone of the male species—about seeing him, talking to him, being in his space, and talking about him.
I froze.
Nothing escaped Maddy's eyes, so she knew the exact moment I went still.
"What is it?" she asked, pausing her celebration. "What happened?"
I was almost scared to say the words. "I think…" I whispered, staring at her. "I think I like him."
"Like who?"
Just then, someone jumped into the chair on my left. I released a shocked breath before seeing Arjun sitting on the chair he had turned backward, the backrest facing the table as he propped up his elbows on it.
As if on cue, the chair on Maddy's right was suddenly occupied with Aaron, whose intense gaze was directed at me.
"So," Arjun said, helping himself to my apple as he bit into it, his gaze resting on me. "Who do you like?"
I didn't have to look at Aaron to know he was looking at me. Under his scrutinizing gaze, my cheeks warmed—I'd been doing a lot of this lately—and I intertwined my fingers resting on my thighs so they wouldn't fiddle.
"Leave her alone, dickhead," Maddy said to Arjun with an annoyed tone. "And you both have to stop sneaking up on us like this. Can't a girl and her friend have a private conversation without you two shoving yourselves in uninvited?"
"I wasn't talking to you, Madeline, but I understand you've got an unhealthy obsession with me, so I'll forgive you for the interruption." Arjun smiled devilishly.
Maddy scoffed incredulously. "I'm interrupting? If I wanted to kill myself, I'd climb up to your ego and jump down to your IQ."
"Maybe if you weren't such a troublesome goddamn piece of work, we could come to an arrangement."
"I'd shoot myself in the head before I let you sleep with me."
"Who said anything about sleeping?"
I honestly had no idea why they argued so much. Aaron had said they were probably having sex, but Maddy and Arjun were at each other's necks so much that it was unbelievable.
The bickering continued, and I let their voices fade into the background. My gaze met Aaron's. Had he also overheard my conversation with Maddy? God, I hoped not. There was no strength in me to explain who it was that I liked because there was no way I would admit to his face that it was him.
Aaron stood up, grabbed his chair, and moved it to the empty spot between Maddy and me. My heart was already hammering against my chest. I had to inhale deeply with this sudden closeness because my lungs suddenly felt constricted.
I liked Aaron.
