I faced the sink and turned on the faucet to run my hands under the water just so I wouldn't fiddle with them. "Everything's fine." I turned off the tap, tearing off a few rolls of paper to dry my hands before tossing it in the trash.

"You can't even fucking look at me."

He was making this too hard. Too fucking hard.

Aaron was behind me then, wrapping his hands around my middle as my eyes met his in the mirror.

"Don't pull away from me, baby." His voice was barely above a whisper. "Stop running."

"I can't give you what you want." The words were spoken in defeat. "I'm too damaged. Too broken."

"You—"

A knock at the door broke him off. My heart jumped into my chest as my eyes widened. Aaron paused behind me. Sure, there were stalls where we could hide, but what if whoever was behind the door was more than one person?

Shit!

"It's fine," Aaron whispered, seemingly calm in contrast to my ruffled countenance. "If they knock for a while and nobody answers, they'll leave."

"Open this fucking door right now, or I'll go get HR."

The voice caused goosebumps to spread down my arm. Jade.

I looked in the mirror as Aaron's jaw clenched.

We were trapped.

Aaron pushed away from me to open the door. I sucked in a breath to brace myself for the impact.

"Would you mind telling me what you're doing in the women's restroom, Aaron, dear?" Jade asked in an angry voice.

Her eyes scanned his face, then looked past him to me. Recognition dawned in her eyes, and she let out a humorless scoff.

"Of course.” She crossed her arms over her chest. "When I didn't see you both in your office or the cafeteria, I figured you were somewhere else…together."

I wasn't about to stand there and listen to her rant. I walked to the door and walked past her, but she stepped in front of me, blocking the door.

"Where the hell are you going, you bitch?"

"Jade," Aaron jeered. "Careful."

I kept my gaze squarely focused on her. "It's alright, Aaron. I don't need you to stand up for me. Not when it comes to pathetic women who can't seem to take a hint. He doesn't want you, sweetie. Why are you so bent on making a fool of yourself?"

With that, I shoved her out of the way and walked out. My head was spinning with different possibilities of how this could go wrong. Going to the bathroom had been an erroneous decision on my part, and getting caught by Jade was even worse.

What if she actually went to HR? It didn't take a genius to guess what we had been doing. I wasn't usually a bitch, but Jade made it so easy with her judgmental eyes and ridiculous self-absorption.

I exhaled, realizing I'd made my way to the outside garden on the ground floor. It was empty, just as I expected, and I once or twice enjoyed coming here for a bit of quiet. Now, however, there was a volcano inside my chest waiting to erupt.

"Felicity,” the voice came from behind me.

I pressed my eyes shut, pushing my glasses up my nose as different emotions ran through me. God, I'd never met a more persistent man. Why couldn't he understand that I didn't want more?

Sighing, I opened my eyes and turned to face Aaron. "Leave me alone."
