I quickly slipped into fresh jeans and a new shirt, brushed my teeth, plaited my hair into a thick plait, and made my way to the kitchen, where Stephan was usually found.

This was also the case today, and surprisingly, a few people were sitting at his table waiting for breakfast.

"Good morning," I greeted Chris, Hecate, Rick, and Sam.

They all looked worse for wear. Even Hecate. The silver of her irises was at least duller than usual.

"Good morning, Myrina," Stephan called back from the stove, while the others couldn't manage more than a grumble. I went straight to the demon, who seemed to be the only one who was responsive.

"What's wrong with them? Too little sleep?" I asked and took another gaze at the sleepy group.

Stephan giggled and turned the bacon in the pan at the same time. It smelled heavenly. "No sleep at all would be the correct term. They sat around the campfire until just now. Aza did too, but she decided against breakfast and opted for her bed."

"Oh dear," I groaned. "Do they know that we're about to discuss all the events and the progress of the various missions? They need to be well-rested and focused for that."

"Don't worry, Myrina. I'll ensure they'll be fit for the next few hours."

Laughing, he pointed to a small jar containing a yellow herb.

"That contains one of the herbs from Hecate's stash," he whispered. "Let's put it this way: I borrowed it and will put it in the coffee they all requested. It'll wake them up in no time."

"Do you know how to use it?" I looked skeptically at the unfamiliar plant.

"Well," the demon now pondered uncertainly. "I've watched Hecate use it a few times."

"Then you also know the amount that can be administered?" I asked even more skeptically.

"Yes," Stephan now replied with a mischievous grin. "At least the ones for demons and angels. I'll just give half the dose to the two humans, your brothers. That should be enough. And I'll use a little more for Hecate. She is a goddess, after all."

I sighed anxiously. "Then let's hope you're right."

"Are you hungry? If you want coffee, you should have some now before I add the herb," the demon advised me with amusement. I quickly poured myself a cup.

"Stephan, I wanted to ask you for something," I began cautiously on my mission to find an evening dress.

"For an extra-large portion of eggs and bacon?"

"No. Although, if you're going to make some, I'd love some," I got off the subject at the sight of the deliciously roasted bacon. "But I actually wanted to ask you whether you have an evening dress for me?"

Stephan observed me in amazement. "I don't know what image you have of me, but I'm a male demon, and I'm not wearing any dresses I could lend you. Maybe you'd better turn to Zuri or Hecate."

"No, no! You misunderstood me!" A giggle could no longer be suppressed at the idea of Stephan in an evening dress. "I meant, could you get me one? Like the dress I wore in the Hamptons, for example."

"Oh, now I understand. You think because I was the messenger who brought you the clothes, I would have gotten them, too." He filled a large plate with scrambled eggs and bacon, which he handed to me. "I'm sorry, Myrina, but the Dumah gave me the evening gowns."

I stared at him in disappointment. I hadn't expected that. Who should I ask, then? Zuri? Hecate? I'd rather not. Tanael? Absolutely not!

"You know what? I'll look at the house in the Hamptons later to see if I can find the dress you wore at dinner," Stephan interrupted my thoughts.

"Thank you!" I threw my arms around his neck. "You're the best."

"Now, eat first." Laughing, he handed me the cutlery.

"It just smells great." I had never been close to Stephan, but at that moment, it seemed almost ridiculous that I had ever found him creepy.

"Speaking of smelling," I began cautiously. "You know how you used to scare the hell out of me when you sniffed me back home in New York?"

"Is that so?" he asked with the most innocent face I had ever seen.
