“They were bound to find out. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal,” I said, when Luna interrupted my painting. She’d come over to read me the short article that went live twenty minutes ago.

Luna narrowed her eyes. “I don’t believe you.”

I laughed as I set my headphones down, making sure not to get them close to my paint palette.

Somehow I managed to find my Zen and just paint. Maybe it was the good lighting or maybe just me rationalizing that in the light of day the argument with Sebastian could have been fixed, but I was determined to act like Teflon. I couldn’t get stuck in the muck and mire. No, I had to keep painting like it was my sole purpose in life, which at this moment, it was.

And now Luna had come in and dumped a huge bucket of ice water all over my Zen – metaphorically speaking, of course.

“It will be good for the gallery.”

“But will it be good for you?”

I inhaled, trying to recapture that aforementioned Zen. “Now you sound like Daisy. I’m fine, I promise.”

“Well, you do have the hot studs Beck employs at your beck and call,” she said with a smile. “See what I did there?”

I nodded patiently. “Very funny.”

Luna tossed her hair over her shoulder. “Thought so. Well, at least the cat’s out of the bag. Although at this point they’re just guessing you’re back.”

“My showing is in two days, so it’s a safe assumption.” I nodded my head to the canvas. “Can I get back to work now? I’m almost done, and I really don’t want to completely lose my concentration.”

“Sure, sure, sure, you do that. And I’ll swing by in three hours so we can head out.”

I had turned back to my painting and did a double take in confusion.

“You’re coming with me to the club. I secured you a private room and I’ll cover your drinks.” She shot me a wink.

“And you need to pick me up to do this?”

Luna gestured wildly. “Technically, I will need to pick you up from this landing. Be ready at eight. Wear something sexy.”

Luna was typing on her phone a second later, fully back in work mode.

I shook my head and laughed. Then my phone pinged.

“Ugh, everyone needs to leave me alone.”

Daisy

Are you back in town?

I tapped my nails against the phone case, trying to figure out how much I wanted to tell her since it would definitely get back to Dominic. Since opting to call Luna instead of Daisy last night, I’d ignored the little angel on my shoulder telling me to be honest with my brother and his girlfriend.

I guess when you’re indecisive long enough, decisions get made for you.
