All three of us glanced at Dominic.

“Well?” I asked, fully enjoying putting him on the spot.

Dominic pulled Daisy tight against his chest and kissed the top of her head. “I’ll do it.”

Daisy turned her head just slightly so that she could kiss my brother on the lips.

“Okay, keep it in your pants,” I said, then dared a glance at Sebastian whose attention was fully on me. Our eyes connected and he held my gaze.

What would it be like to feel that connected to somebody? To feel so desperate to kiss them and make them happy?

What would it be like if that person were Sebastian?

I felt a pang of loss.

But can you really lose something if you never had it to begin with? Maybe I should put myself out there. If he were any other guy, I’d have no problems making the first move.

So why the hell was I hesitating now?

Would Dominic be mad? Probably.

Could it make things awkward at home? Maybe.

Was it worth finding out what was going on between us? Absolutely.

SEVENTEEN

SEBASTIAN

"I'm glad I can trust you with my sister," Dominic said as soon as we were alone.

You wouldn't be saying that if you knew the thoughts I’ve been having about her.

Dinner was fine, but I felt like I was under a microscope the entire time. I tried not to glance at Faith more than necessary. Luckily, Faith asked a lot of questions and most of them were directed at Dominic and Daisy.

Now Dominic and I were in the kitchen cutting up the dessert while Faith and Daisy chatted on the balcony after helping themselves to a tour of my place. There was no use trying to stop them once they were on a mission.

“I know you’d never take advantage of her,” he continued. “You know how hard that can be for our family sometimes.”

Now that we were out of college we connected when we could. I often traveled to London for work and would see him when I visited. Now that I was nearby, I hoped to see a little more of him since he was the closest friend I had. Well, him, Beck, and Luna.

"How's she really doing?" Dominic asked, worry etched into the planes of his face.

I wanted to answer him but also wanted to protect Faith’s confidence. "She’s good, man. Not painting as much as she would probably like, but she's working on it. Trying different things to jog her creativity."

Dominic nodded. "Daisy mentioned that. I guess Faith told her the other night."

"I think coming into the city and teaching her class was a good thing. It’s motivating."

Dominic leaned against the kitchen island. "I hated seeing her so shaken up after that idiot clocked her in the eye. You're a good friend for taking her in."

I shrugged. "It's nothing. Besides, she's best friends with my mom and my dog now."

That made him laugh. "Faith could make friends with anyone."

"She's talented that way."

"She does have a tendency to put people under her spell."
