I felt the words on the tip of my tongue, but I didn't say them. Not yet. I didn’t know when I’d be ready, but knowing he was all the way in made it a little easier to let myself fall. It made it easier to know that even if it took me another year to say it, he’d still be around.

It made it easier knowing he wasn’t going anywhere.

I bolted upright, gasping as my heart pounded. The sunlight bathed the room in gold, and it would’ve been beautiful if we weren’t running late.

“We’re late,” I said, throwing the covers back. “Shit. Aiden, come on.” I shoved at his shoulder as I turned toward the edge of the bed.

A heavy arm wrapped around me, stopping me from moving.

“It’s fine,” he mumbled, pressing his face into the pillows. I tried to wiggle free from his grip, but he just held on tighter, his fingers digging into my hip.

“It’s not fine,” I hissed. “We can’t be late!” He cracked his eye open, most of his face hidden in the pillow.

“It’s Sunday,” he growled. “Go back to sleep.” I blinked at him.

“Sunday?” I turned and reached for my phone. He sighed as he pulled his arm away to prop himself up on his elbows. Turning the phone on, I sighed and threw myself back on the bed, relieved he was right. I gave him a guilty smile, wincing slightly. “Sorry.”

“It’s fine,” he breathed, and pressed a kiss to my shoulder. He rolled onto his side and draped his arm over me again, nestling his face into my neck.

I stared at the ceiling. Adrenaline was still coursing through my body. Even though it was barely before seven, there was no way I could go back to sleep. I sighed again, and Aiden squeezed me, brushing his lips against my neck.

“Go back to sleep,” he murmured, his voice raspy and thick from sleep.

“I can’t,” I said, huffing out a breath. “I’ll get up so I don’t bother you.” I tried to move again, but his arm clamped down.

“You’re not going anywhere,” he said. “You barely slept last night. Sleep.”

“It’s too bright and I’m too awake now.” I trailed my fingertips along his arm. He pressed another kiss to my neck and grumbled to himself as he slid out of bed. He padded around the room, closing the curtains to darken the room again. I stared at him, watching his back muscles flex with each movement.

He was built, but I hadn’t seen him workout. He obviously did, though. I just couldn’t picture him going to a gym.

“Do you workout?” I asked as he laid back down. He paused, giving me a weird look, then huffed out a laugh.

“Most days,” he said, grinning. “When you’re here, I don’t. I’d rather spend all my time with you.” My face heated, and I forced myself to look away before I could grin like a maniac. “Why?” He nestled beside me again, his arm a comforting weight across me.

I shrugged, choosing to not look at him. My fingers went back to his arm and I mindlessly stroked it, playing with the coarse hair.

“Danica,” he growled, pressing his body against my side. I slid my eyes to his, finding his brows low. I tried to hold back my grin, but I couldn’t.

“I can’t picture you at a gym, working out around other people. It seems too normal.” He blinked at me.

“Too normal?” he laughed. “I am normal.” I shook my head, and he laughed again.

“You’re so far from normal, it’s not even funny.” His mouth opened, his eyes widening with his shock. I folded my lips between my teeth to keep from laughing.

He lifted himself up on his elbow and stared down at me. “You little brat,” he said. “I’m not normal?” I shook my head, my chest vibrating with held-in laughter. “What about me isn’t normal?” He rolled further on top of me, pinning me to the bed. “Is it my insanely good looks? Or maybe my superior taste in movies, since we both know yours are terrible.” My eyes widened.

“I can’t believe you just said that.”

“No one’s favorite Christmas movie is Gremlins,” he said flatly.

“It’s a classic!”

“Our definitions of classic are different, I think.” He brushed a kiss to my collarbone.
