“I’ve told him,” I mumbled into my mug. She shook her head as she pushed off the fridge.

“Don’t tell him,” she said. “Show him.” She emphasized the words, giving me a firm look.

Show him? I’d all but begged him to fuck me, but he refused. How did showing him make a difference? How the fuck would I show him?

“How?” I asked, and she smiled broader, showing her teeth.

“Get creative,” she said as she walked toward the door. “Christmas is in a few days; do something festive.” With a wink, she slipped from the room, leaving my mind a whirlwind.

Do something festive.

Something festive.

What was festive that said fuck me?

I groaned as I left the kitchen. She could seriously be more trouble than help sometimes.

The day somehow went by too fast yet too slow. Before I’d known what happened, it was five and Sadie was walking with me to my car, a mischievous grin on her face.

When I told her my name for our game of secret Santa was Aiden’s, she’d donned that grin and hadn’t let it fall since. She just promised something fun and told me to meet her at the elevators.

Much to Aiden’s annoyance, I wasn’t letting him come with us. He’d said he could be the pack mule and carry our shopping bags, but I still refused. We weren’t getting enough for him to be useful, and the gift was for him.

“I’ve been doing some online shopping,” she said as we slid into my car. She immediately cranked the heat up when the car started.

“Oh?” I laughed as I checked my mirrors, then waved at Aiden, who was frowning in the car next to mine. I gave him a small smile, then blew him a kiss. His face finally softened. He gave me a small finger wave, then pointed at me, letting his face get stern again. I rolled my eyes, knowing that look meant, “Be careful, or else.”

“There’s a lingerie store a few blocks from here,” she said, scrolling on her phone. I pulled out of the parking lot and huffed out a laugh.

“Lingerie? I can’t give him that at an office Christmas party,” I said. “He’s still my boss.” I caught her rolling her eyes from the corner of my eye.

“You’re dating your boss,” she said. “There’s an exception.”

“I’m not giving him that in front of everyone,” I said, my voice firmer.

“Party pooper,” she mumbled. “You should still buy it. Wear it for him another time.”

Even though it was ridiculous, the idea sparked something in me. Maybe I could find something pretty and red that was Christmas-y and sexy? I cringed at that thought. There’s no way there’s anything remotely cute and not cheesy that would give off that vibe.

“We’ll look,” I said, and she clapped her hands.

“He’s not going to know what hit him,” she said, laughing wickedly. “Poor man will probably have a heart attack when he sees you.” I shook my head as I drove down the street, the winter sky darkening above us.

“Let’s hope he doesn’t have one before we hook up,” I muttered, and she laughed again.

She leaned on her elbow on the console between us. “I knew there was a reason I liked you.”

I usually never come to the holiday parties the employees throw. I see it as their time to decompress, boss free. If I’m there, I worry people won’t relax and have a good time.

But Danica asked me to be there, so here I am.
