When we were a unit, they wanted to implant trackers into us, but I fought it. They could only work for up to a mile, and on top of that, I didn’t want the government knowing where I was unless I wanted them to. Furthermore, if the enemy knew we had them, they could dig them out or put a signal blocker on them.

“The nice thing is that Thant has been out of the loop for so long with the military he wouldn’t expect you to have one. He’d also know he couldn’t touch you until we all left. So tomorrow we have to make it seem like we are leaving.” Commander pauses and looks at Andrei. “Well, for those of us who didn’t come in undercover.”

“You think I didn’t have our tracks covered.” Andrei waves to Alek and Mikhail, who both smile. It’s not a happy smile. It’s sinister and almost makes me laugh because those two, if they put their heads together, could cause some serious issues. “Our plane was registered as Babushka coming in. She even is here at my brother’s place.”

“Then that means, Gambit, you’ll have to bring your girl back to town to keep with the ruse,” Commander says.

While he’s talking, Browser walks over and waves a metal detector wand over my body. It goes off when he gets to my breasts, and I watch as he tries to hold in the laugh. Leif walks over to the bar and pours himself a tumbler of his bourbon I keep here for him.

“Those aren’t Commander approved, are they?” Browser says.

When we were in the unit, we had rules about tattoos and piercings. The guys could get tattoos as long as they weren’t military affiliated or names.

“Not a Black Unit member anymore, so I can do what I want. Going to get a tattoo when this is all done too.” I laugh and wait for Browser to decide where he’s going to inject the implant.

“True that. Guess I should’ve guessed you’d get a tattoo when you are dating one of the East Coast’s premier artists.” He waves to where Leif is standing. I turn and can’t help but smile at him. He mouths “love you,” and my insides get gooey. “Okay, I’m going to do your thigh. It’s thick enough I can do a deep penetration. It will take surgery to get it out though.” I look over at him as he does some things by his computer. He pulls out a large syringe, and I just shake my head. “Over here.” He moves me away from the group and leads me to my laundry room. “Drop them.” I look down at my cargo pants and groan. He wants to get to my thigh, but I’m not sure I want to be that exposed. He hasn’t seen my scars. He doesn’t know the extent of what I went through, and he’s an old, good friend of mine. “It’s okay, Rogue, I’ve seen you in your skivvies before.” He jokes, but it’s so hard.

I look out the door, and just like I suspect, Leif is watching, but it’s the look of jealousy that I like. I wave him over, and he stands in front of the door. I watch him as I unbutton my pants and then pull them down to expose my thigh.

“Dang, Rogue.” Browser brushes a hand against the knife wounds along my thigh, and I almost cringe back. Leif growls low, and the sound causes me to shiver in desire. “Yeah, okay.”

I feel the syringe push through my skin and muscle, and then the plunger is pushed. I don’t watch him. I keep my eyes on Leif to the point that when the door clicks closed behind Browser and Leif is on me, I’m shocked.

His kiss takes me to a place where I feel beautiful and loved. I don’t remember the scars or the pain. I forget about everything but the man that I’m wrapped around.

“I want you, but you have a loft full of people.” He groans as he pulls away from my lips and rests his forehead against mine.

“I love you.” I give him the words I never want to stop saying.

“I know, love. Now let’s clear out this place so I can fuck you on every surface.”

We step out after I adjust my clothing. I’m about to tell them to clear out when Leif’s phone starts ringing. It’s the middle of the night.

He answers it, and I watch as his face hardens, and he hands me the phone. “It’s for you, love,” he mouths, and I click the speakerphone button. I know I need to keep him on long enough for Browser to get a lock on him.

“Hello,” I say with no tremble in my voice. I’m not scared anymore. I’m not worried what’s going to happen because I have all these people to help me and to protect Franci.

“Elo lass, you weren’t answering your phone,” Crank says, and I’m instantly angry. He was British special forces before he hooked up with Roger.

“Where’s your master?”

“Oh, my little lass, he’s close by.”

“Hello, Angeline, or should I call you Ridley? I like Angeline so much better. It’s feminine.”

“I don’t give a fuck what you like, Roger. This ends now.”

“It doesn’t end until both you and the brat are dead.”

“Not going to happen,” Leif says.

“Shocking that you would go from me to him. He’s so untrained.”

“I can protect good enough.”

“Really? Then why would you let her be found. It was your security cameras that first clued us in that Angeline was alive. You don’t delete any of your footage. We found her when our facial recognition software searches for ears instead of faces. I did enjoy when she nailed your ass to the floor. I think she’s the more dominant in your relationship.” His laugh is evil and high-pitched. How did I not know or hear the evil in him before?

“Get on with it, Thant. What do you want?”
