She might be stunningly beautiful, but I was pretty sure she had titanium claws that would appear without warning and rip me to shreds. Plus, she’d drive any captor to the brink of insanity with her snarky little quips.
I wasn’t a complete idiot. I was driving the woman to her dorm, then bailing as fast as I could.
Her eyes darted to the passenger door, and she swallowed before lifting her chin with this haughty bravado and curling her upper lip, like sitting next to me for the entire ride home would be pure purgatory.
I rolled my eyes again and moved to the back door. “If the idea of sitting next to me is so repulsive, then park your ass in the backseat.” I yanked the door open, and she fucking took me up on my offer.
I gave her an incredulous look, which she stared down with the iciest glare ever given to anyone ever before slamming the door shut.
As I walked around the car, I growled in Casey’s face, “You owe me so fucking big, man.”
He thanked me with a kiss on the cheek, which I wiped off before giving every one of them the finger and jumping behind the wheel.
I could hear Casey laughing just before I slammed the door shut.
Gripping the wheel, I looked in the rearview mirror and stared at Leilani huddled against the door, her seat belt on and her arms crossed tightly over her chest. There was a deep scowl on her pretty face, and I started the engine with a sense of dread.
Let the nightmare begin.

At least I thought it would be a nightmare, but then it wasn’t. It was everything I didn’t expect…
I shake my head, reliving that out-of-control kiss and then the aftermath.
With a wince, I shake my head, still trying to figure her out. I wish I knew what the fuck was going on with her and why I can’t stop thinking about that infuriating, stunning, intelligent, mercurial woman. Seriously, she’s gonna be the death of me. And there’s no way I can just avoid her and forget the whole thing, because she’s Caroline’s best friend. I’m gonna see her again. It’s inevitable.
And then what the fuck am I gonna do?
