Selena—names always come to me eventually—is setting up her gun. Putting it down on the sterilized tray, she pulls on a pair of gloves, then asks me, “What do you want?”

“I was thinking a little red heart. Just here.” I point to the same spot I indicated before, and her eyebrow arches.

“A red heart?”

“Yeah, like on a pack of cards. Like a Queen of Hearts.”

The side of her mouth lifts into a closed-mouth grin and she nods. “Okay.”

I rest my head back, trusting her to give me something good. She’s never failed me before, which is why I don’t look as she works away on my wrist.

As usual, my eyes water and I have to blink at the sting.

It’s not too bad, just a little one like this, but the inside of my wrist is kind of sensitive. Getting a tattoo is like being scratched with a sewing needle. It’s bearable, but you’re glad when it’s over.

Selena works fast, and I’m soon sitting back up and staring down at the little heart on my wrist.

It looks really similar to the one on Lil’ Red’s hip.

“Awesome,” I murmur as she wipes the last of the blood away, then starts covering it up.

“You know all the rules?”

“Yep.”

“Need any more of the creams or anything?”

“Nah, I’ve still got enough left over.”

“’Kay.” She steps back, whipping off her gloves and shaking her head at me.

“What?”

“I can’t decide if a tattoo to commemorate your latest sexcapades is cool or disgusting.”

I grin. “It’s a reminder of the best ones.”

“Mmmm.” She’s not impressed. She’s trying to hide it, but she can’t.

“You don’t like that I’m a Casanova, huh?”

She sighs. “It’s not my place to judge. I should seriously shut my mouth, but…” She shakes her head. “I guess I just want you to fall in love one day.”

“Ew.” I pull a face. “Why would you say that?”

She laughs, holding out her hand to pull me out of the chair. “Because it’s the best sex you’ll ever have. It’s the best life you’ll ever have.”

Her cheeks tinge a shade of pink that’s so unlike her.

I give her a dry look. “Okay, when did you jump aboard the love train?”

She laughs. “I’ve been on it for a while, but… this weekend, he asked, and I said yes.”

As much as I never want that for myself, I get that she’s stoked. So, I do the right thing. I pull her into a hug, lift her off her feet for a quick spin, and tell her, “Congratulations.”

“Thank you.” She practically skips back out front, and I’ve never seen her do something so girly before.

“Jeez, love’s changed you.”
