I smash my teeth together, hating myself for a brief minute because I did know that about him, but I foolishly thought I could be enough.

Lani warned me, and I wouldn’t listen.

You are such an idiot!

“Men can be such assholes. Amiright?” Mikayla steps forward. The pained expression on her face is sympathetic, and I try to smile, show her I appreciate the sentiment.

She gives me a little wave and mouths, “Hey.”

I nod to acknowledge her, but that’s all I can manage. I’m here for a reason, and if I don’t get this over with, I’ll regret it.

I think.

Doubts scour my insides as I let out a heavy sigh and tuck a wave of hair behind my ear.

“Look, Casey, we need to talk.”

How am I even getting these words out of my mouth?

He smiles and nods. “Sure, what’s up?”

I look around the room, noticing how everyone is watching this unfold. They’re obviously curious, but like hell I’m doing this with an audience. I raise my eyebrows. “In private.”

He gives me an awkward frown, scratching his chest and trying for a smile.

“Truth? Whatever you tell me will get back to these guys anyway, so…” He shrugs.

Seriously?

He tells them everything?

Well, that’s just fantastic, isn’t it?

So fan-fucking-tastic.

I stare at him. Every tendon in my body feels like a string about to snap. I grip my bag strap, trying to decide what to do. Should I bail?

But you’re already here. And you can’t go through this again.

Just get it out.

“What’s said in Hockey House stays in Hockey House,” Mick softly tells me. “But we can go upstairs if you want.”

“No, that’s cool. She doesn’t mind, right?” Casey’s voice pitches with desperation, like he’s afraid of what I’m about to say.

Does he know?

Has this happened to him before?

“I’m gonna tell these guys as soon as you leave anyway.”

Yep, he definitely looks scared.

I thought this would feel better.

My jaw works to the side as indecision battles within me.

You’re here. Just do it. Do it now!
