“Yes.”

He moves me until he can grab my blanket at the foot of the bed, laying it over the both of us and tucking me in.

I sigh and rest my hand on his abs. “Get some sleep, Angel,” he says gently, kissing the top of my head and I close my eyes letting sleep take me way easier than normal.

Terror

the next morning

The smells wake me up. I know my mother is here, preparing breakfast. I look over at Meghan and she’s fast asleep. Knowing she felt safe enough with me to sleep so soundly is a comfort to me.

I know trust is a huge thing with her. From what little she has hinted at and told me, her life has not been easy. But I can also see it in the way she carries herself and how she interacts with others.

She looks so beautiful sleeping peacefully.

Everything about her is radiant, perfect. I smooth her hair gently out of her face and pull the blanket higher making sure she stays warm.

I slip out of bed and make my way down the stairs. The second I push open the door at the back of the kitchen my mom is running over.

“Oh my God, you stayed overnight!” she whisper yells, clapping her hands together dramatically.

I laugh and hug her. “Good morning to you too, Ma.”

She giggles. “Tell me how right I am! She is the best.” She gives me a look that says, ‘pay up’.

I roll my eyes and go to the coffee pot pouring myself a coffee. “Does she like coffee?” I ask my mom.

She nods. “I’ll fix her a cup. Are you taking her breakfast too?” She gives me the stink eye like I better not be doing anything else but that.

“Yes, she is asleep.”

She nods like she approves. “She is a good girl. You’re the best son I could ever have. It’s a perfect fit,” she tells me once again for the hundredth time since Meghan moved here.

“I should have had my ass here sooner.”

“Damn right you should have, but you are here now.” The door opens and Dante walks in and gives me a nod. “He spent the night,” Mom tells him without taking a breath.

He glares at me. “You treat her right, son?” he asks me and my mom gapes at him.

“My son would never do anything but be a gentleman,” Mom stands up for me and he flinches. Mom is the sweetest but pissing her off is a big fucking no-no.

Not a minute passes and I hear a creak on the stairs. I walk over, holding the door open. “I heard voices,” she says in a sleepy voice. Her hair is messed up on one side where she laid against me all night long.

“It’s just me, I’ll be up with breakfast,” I tell her, and try to fix her hair but only make it worse. She reaches up and touches her hair. “Oh my God.” She turns around and runs up the stairs.

I chuckle at her antics. It’s so fucking adorable that she is so shy and sweet. Makes me want to wrap her up in a bubble and snuggle her so nothing bothers her.

I turn around to see my mom and Dante watching me. She is smiling and he turns around helping my mom get busy with the breakfast rush.

Mom hands me a cup of coffee. “This is for her.”

“Mom, is that her car out front?” I ask, remembering she drove here.

She nods. “She needs a whole new car honestly; she walks everywhere, and I don’t like that,” she points out to me, and I don’t like that shit either. I don’t want her in danger.

Walking is not safe for her. The thought of some fucker messing with her is more than I can take.
