He nods and I shake my head at someone’s stupidity. We are his boss, he should have agreed and kept his opinion to himself.

I find one of the mechanics that I trust. “Watch Meghan’s car when he brings it in. I don’t trust that fucker.” I nod my head in the direction of the manager.

The mechanic smiles. “Fuck, a lot of men in this town are going to be pissed.” He laughs and wipes his hands on a dirty rag.

“What the fuck does that mean?” I ask, crossing my arms across my chest.

He holds his hands up. “Look man, every single man in this town has tried to shoot their shot with her, only to be turned down flat, including the manager.”

I close my eyes for a second and it hits me why he had such a big attitude. “She is off-limits; you can spread that shit far and wide.” I can feel others inside the shop eavesdropping, let them spread whatever they want as long as it’s ‘Meghan’s off-limits’.

I make my way to the office and log onto the computer to check everything.

How fucking dare he come into my shop, the shop I run day to day, and think he can just take over? I don’t care that he is the owner.

I grit my teeth and try to calm myself, but now he has her?

She is mine. I have wanted her since second she waited on me when she first started working at the diner.

I come in every day for lunch to talk to her and ease her into dating me but some fucker like that just swoops in and takes her?

Fuck. No.

That shit is not going to fly. He might have the upper hand right now, but I will not lose her to that fucking club.

Even if I have to take her.

She is my soul mate; the second she smiled at me, I felt that in my soul. She is mine, she just doesn’t know it.

He thought he ran this town, including when we were in high school, but this cycle stops now.

Deciding to start right now, I walk down the short street to the diner.

It’s time for her to know that he is not the only man for her.

I have been floating from table to table because I’m on cloud nine and Marie has been grinning at me all morning. She gave up trying to look away when I caught her the first ten times.

It’s my break and I’m sitting in the kitchen eating a snack when she finally makes her way to me. “Welllll,” she says slowly like she is waiting for me to give her all the details.

I give her the PG version of how he took me out to dinner, how we came back to watch movies, and how much of a gentleman he was.

I can see Dante eavesdropping from the office. He has become like a father figure to me over the last few months.

“Might as well just come out and sit with me,” I call over my shoulder and he laughs. I know that I’m the same age as his daughter, so I think I just filled another daughter spot.

He scoots a chair over from the office to me and sets one in front of Marie while the other waitress is cleaning up from the lunch rush.
