They catch me looking and run away.

Did some kid get in here?

I run my hand along my beard. Well, it’s not a beard but it’s a few days of growth more than I usually have.

It’s been a long fucking month. The guys bring women into the club, and they all have shit following them which leads to us getting involved.

I’m happy for my brothers, and to have all the little babies running around the club is fucking cute, as much as I hate to admit to myself.

I eye the window waiting for the child to peek at me again, but to my surprise it’s my mother who pushes open the door. “There’s my baby.” She walks over and hugs me tight. I pat her back and look over her shoulder at her shadow.

Still don’t like the fucker touching my mom but he isn’t so bad as fuckers go. “Hi, Mom. This fucker treating you good?” I eye him as I say it.

He chuckles and my mom smacks my arm hard. “You be nice. He is a complete gentleman,” she scolds me and walks over to him, and he tucks her into his side. “Baby, you know that you shouldn’t tell lies.”

A slow grin slides over my mom’s face and she looks behind her toward the kitchen. “Meghan, I want to introduce you to my son,” Mom calls over her shoulder. I see a small face in the window and then the door is pushed open.

She walks out, smiles at Mom, and then her eyes connect with mine.

Fuck.

She smiles sweetly at me. I grip the seat behind me, so I don’t fall on my ass. This is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life.

“Nice to meet you, Randall,” she says, and her voice is as soft as she looks. Even the shock of hearing my first name doesn’t faze me.

“Nice to meet you, Meghan.” I step forward locking my knees together so I don’t fall. Her face slightly reddens along her cheekbones. I lift my hand out for her to shake and she slips her hand in mine. I close my fingers around hers, her whole hand being swallowed by mine.

Her face continues to redden every second that I stare at her. From the corner of my eye, I can see my mom grinning at the both of us.

I should have listened to her months ago when she mentioned the waitress to me. Now I’m fucking kicking myself for being so stubborn.

“Mom, is she off work?” I ask without taking my eyes off her.

“Yes,” my mom says gleefully.

Meghan’s eyes widen when I ask that. “Okay, I’m taking her out on a date. Rain check on our dinner plans?”

chapter two

Meghan

I look behind me at Marie, shocked that her son literally just said he wanted to take me out on a date.

He is beautiful. Like out of this world gorgeous and he shouldn’t be even looking at me right now.

His mother hasn’t stopped speaking about her son. She was not lying about anything she has said about him.

I’m trying not to have a panic attack because he is still holding my hand, staring into my eyes, as he asked that.

I have never had a man flat out ask me on a date, let alone stare into my eyes. He is dead serious. I study his lips like I’m waiting for him to crack a smile or start laughing like this is a huge joke.

Marie just looks like this is the best day of her life. I trust her. In the months I have known her she has never done anything like this.

I can feel everyone’s eyes on me, and it hits me that I haven’t answered him yet.

My face burns in embarrassment because I’m a total dork.

I clear my throat slightly. “I’d like that,” I say way more confidently than how I truly feel.
