He pulls me into a hug, and I hug him back fiercely. “I have missed seeing you every day.”

I giggle. “I have missed you, too.”

Terror comes around the vehicle and sneakily pulls me away from Dante. He grins and runs his hands over the top of my hair, messing it up like I’m a kid.

Marie opens the door and waves us in. “Come on, you're going to catch your death from this cold.”

It’s in the forties so freezing to death is not going to happen, but we indulge her. I look back at Terror and he grabs the bouquet from the back seat.

I’m so excited to see her reaction. Dante looks at the arrangement of flowers and I can see he is curious.

“Oh, my goodness, they are beautiful,” Marie says loudly and takes them from Terror, breathing in their scent.

I try to hold back my expression knowing that any minute she is going to see the note.

It’s only seconds but it feels much longer. She looks around at everything but the note.

Finally, she spots it, and Terror takes ahold of my hand, lacing our fingers together. She smiles at Terror, totally oblivious that her life is going to change.

Dante is carrying a box of napkins, setting it on the counter behind her. He bends over to watch her open the small envelope.

Her eyes get wider and wider the longer she reads the note. Her hands drop and she looks to me, to my stomach, and then back to the note.

“Oh my God!” she screams at the top of her lungs. She flings her hands and hits Dante in the face in the process.

I burst out laughing, and she rushes me and hugs me, jostling me all around. Terror stops her from shaking me too hard. “You will knock the baby out of her,” he scolds her, and I roll my eyes.

“Terror, I don’t think that’s even possible,” I scold him right back but he just grins like it’s the cutest thing.

He shrugs but doesn’t look convinced. You would think the newness would wear off and he would relax but that is not that case. He grows more protective every day. I can pretend I don’t love it all I want, but I do.

There’s a knock on the diner door and a young teenage girl walks in with a cake box in her hand. I walk over to her and take the box. “Thank you for bringing this on such short notice.” I hand her a tip and she’s on her way.

They’re all looking at me. Marie giggles. “I craved all the sweets when I was pregnant with this one.”

She is so excited; I swear you can feel the happiness radiating off her. I just know she is going to be the best grandmother. I wish that my parents could be here to witness such an important part of our lives.

I set the cake on the counter, and Terror is chuckling. “Did you get a craving on the way over or something?” he asks.

I laugh. “I just happen to know the gender of the baby and I wanted to surprise you.” He always goes to great lengths to surprise me, to take care of me. This time, I wanted to do something for him.

He looks shocked. “Isn’t it too early for that sort of thing?” Marie asks and I shake my head. “I had a blood test that detects the gender early.”

I open the cake box and grab a knife from the counter. I hand it to him and stand back giving him the honor.

He looks at me, the ring on my hand.

We got married a few days after he proposed to me. He woke me up that morning, very early, and decided that that particular day was the day we were to get married.

It was just us there and I was wearing a white dress that we picked up along the way to the courthouse.

I have no blood relatives. I did look into my aunt once River was feeling up to doing research.

My aunt died a few years prior from an accident at her work. It was horrible but she had no kids or a husband so what family I did have left is now gone.

I look down at my rounding stomach, maybe not all gone. I turn my attention back to Terror. Marie has ahold of a plate to put the cake on.

I bite my lip in anticipation, my eyes glued to his face waiting to see how he reacts. He lifts the slice of cake, and he bends down so he can see the color of the cake and he lets out a loud shout.
