“If you back out of the deal, I’ll have to take the land to protect you. There’s no other way I can protect the St. James family without explaining why I’m doing so without being married to you,” he threatened me. “And you know that Xavier will want a war before he is willing to give up any land no matter what your father offers.”

I’d always drowned in his ocean-blue eyes whenever he gazed at me. Now, his eyes were a dull blue. Cold and distant. He was determined to force my hand no matter how I felt or the turmoil that churned within. I couldn’t and wouldn’t lose any more family if I could help it. “Then promise that you or your men won’t hurt Xavier or Pierre.”

He frowned. “You know I’m a man of my word. I can’t promise that if they come after me.”

“You expect me to make the ultimate sacrifice of ignoring that you killed my kin and be with you when you, and I know if I ever touched any of your siblings, as much as you love me, you would end me.” I stared at him, daring him to challenge anything I said. “Besides, Pierre always follows Xavier's lead, and as long as Xavier doesn’t know that you killed Cain, then neither will touch you. He may hate you and won’t bow down to you, but Xavier doesn’t kill unless warranted. They’re not coming after you because I haven’t told them that I found Cain with a knife in his heart, and that truth is going to my grave.”

His eyes flickered. “If I promise, then what? You marry me, still resentful of me? Refusing to allow yourself to truly love me again?”

“Isn’t that what you expected anyway? At least I’m letting you know upfront that I’ll marry you, have your babies, and be by your side. My loyalty will be to you. I won’t attend any more business meetings with my family. I’ll focus on the hotel, expanding my business, and coming home to you every night. You know, real estate and now, the music business. We can put our heads together and gobble up property and new, hot talent worldwide. You and I will be a power couple.” I scrutinized his expression as he processed everything I proposed.

He lifted one thick brow. “What about other women?”

“What about them? Why would you need other women?” I narrowed my gaze.

“You’re describing a loveless, cold marriage. A profitable partnership. Nevertheless, it is a marriage of business and convenience. I need fire in my woman, and if you’re not giving me that, I’ll find it somewhere else.” He bit the corner of his heart-shaped lips.

“Okay. We’ll be respectful and keep our indiscretions out of the public’s eye and each other’s faces,” I replied simply. If he was going to fuck around, so would I.

He grabbed my chin and held it roughly. “You know I’m possessive, Storm. No other man will know your pussy because I swear to God, I will slice his fucking throat.”

“And I guarantee whatever woman you stick your dick in will be her last dick.” I countered. “Accept my terms or not.” I dragged my index finger down the center of his chest and bent to dip my tongue in his hairy belly button. “Besides, just because you can’t have my heart doesn’t mean sex won’t be as fiery as hell. I can admit my body still yearns for yours.”

His breath hitched, and he pushed my head down further to his thick and long erection. When I pulled all of him in my mouth, he hissed, “Promise I won’t touch your brothers or fuck another woman.”

“Good. Also, know this is the last time I do this or anything else sexual until I’m wearing your ring. After that, we can do any and everything your heart desires,” I smiled, satisfied that, for now, my brothers were safe as I indulged on his delicious dick.

Chapter 4

Gavin

I’d just opened my eyes after meditating for the last thirty minutes. I did cardio or weights before I centered myself in my home gym and meditated daily. I needed to start my day with a clear, focused, and strong mind and body. I’d inherited a role I never expected to have: the boss. Being the younger son meant having the freedom to be a soldier or second in command and, in some cases, no involvement in the less savory aspects of the mob. I hadn’t been groomed to be a Don. Brocco, as the firstborn expected to run the DeLuca organization, I was supposed to be his underboss. He and I had known our roles since we were children, and despite my brother’s temper and impulsivity, I was prepared to follow. When my father unexpectedly died of a heart attack due to poisoning three years ago as I started my record label, I was thrust into the head position appointed by the commission by orders of Enzo DeLuca back in Italy. Brocco nor I could argue against the decision, which wedged a rift between us. Although he continued to be dutiful to the family business, he did it grudgingly, and the fun camaraderie we once shared no longer existed. We were brothers in name only, or at least it felt that way most days. Meditation helped ease the sting of losing him because of a decision the commission made that we were obligated to follow if we wanted to remain in the commission that regulated the five mob families running the boroughs of New York.

Someone knocked on the door, expecting Storm. I rose with a smile, but I was disappointed by one of my soldiers, Big Tony. “Sorry, Boss, but Mr. Brazino is outside demanding you see him.”

“Demanding or requesting?” I asked as I used a towel to wipe my bare chest and neck. I tossed on a red t-shirt and pulled my shirt down over my joggers.

“Brazino never makes requests,” Big Tony remarked.

“Bring him to the sitting room instead of my office. I want to make it clear he needs to schedule an appointment like every fucking body if he wants to talk business.”

“Got it, boss.” Big Tony turned and walked away.

I spoke to my system. “Speak to Storm in my bedroom. Good morning.”

“Good morning.” Her voice was so damn throaty when she first woke up, and my dick hardened.

We had a month before the wedding and agreed for her protection. She would move in with me before the wedding and then decide on a home together at some point in the future. My cock probably won’t be speaking to me by our wedding day if just hearing her voice aroused me so.

“Morning. Listen, Brazino popped over. I don’t know why he’s here. My guess is to ask his own questions about the legitimacy of our engagement. We’re in the sitting room up front, and I want you to casually drop in.”

“Got it.”

“I’ll bring you home after he leaves, okay?”

“Okay.” She complied so easily now.

“In my top drawer, I have a gift for you. Make sure you’re wearing it when you come downstairs.”
