Page 39 of Controlling Chloe

The rest of the meal is mostly spent with the women talking and the men observing. My girl fits in perfectly with them, and I have a feeling the three of them will get up to no good whenever they’re together.

After we finish eating, Declan asks me and the rest of the guys to meet for a minute in private to discuss business. I look at Chloe. She’s already pulling beads from one of the dozen cases Cali has.

“Will you be okay for a few?”

“Yep. Bye, Daddy.” As soon as the word comes out of her mouth, her eyes go round.

My lips pull back into a wide smile. I don’t want to make a big deal about this and embarrass her more, but holy fuck, she just called me Daddy in front of our friends. In front of her brother.

I lower my mouth to her ear so only she can hear me. “That’s my good girl. So proud of you.”

Goosebumps rise on her arms. She gives a nod so small that only I notice it, but her eyes sparkle from my praise.

“It’s okay. We call our guys Daddy in front of each other too. Don’t be embarrassed,” Scarlet says.

Chloe’s face flushes, but she smiles. I press a kiss to her temple before joining the rest of the guys.

“What’s going on?” Grady asks.

“I got a call from Andrei Volkov this morning,” Declan says.

I grind my molars so hard it’s painful. Andrei Volkov is the head of the Russian Bratva. We don’t know him well, and our relationship with the Russians is strained, to say the least. The issues we had with them weren’t directly from Andrei, but we’re still wary.

“Andrei got a call from one of his guys in Russia. Girls have been going missing. Young girls. Some not even legal.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Trafficking?”

Declan nods. “Yes. One of the women got away when she got to the United States and was able to call her family. She was brought over on a container ship that arrived in Seattle. And it wasn’t a private port.”

The air thickens with tension. We might not trust the Russian Bratva but trafficking in our city is something we work hard to stop.

“How would they have gotten clearance to dock? And who would have that kind of influence here besides us?” I ask.

Killian rubs the back of his neck. “Members of the city council can sign off on clearance. And guess who we know that’s a council member?”

Goosebumps rise on my flesh. Jesus.

“Bradley fucking Du Pont,” I grit out.

“Is he still alive?” Declan asks.

“Barely. He’s probably wishing he weren’t. I planned on paying a visit to the warehouse today while Chloe was at work.”

Declan grips the table. “Squeeze him for information. If this guy doesn’t blink an eye at drugging a woman’s drink, he probably wouldn’t care if someone shipped a container of girls into Seattle.”

My fists clench at my sides. “Gladly.”

Kieran lifts his chin. “I’ll come too.”

I nod. “Does Andrei have any idea how many girls were shipped here? Or what organization might be behind it?”

“The woman who got away guessed there were at least fifty others in the shipping container with her. She said it was pitch black the entire time, so she only remembers some of the women’s voices,” Declan says quietly. “And so far, Andrei has no idea. He’s reached out to all of the syndicates here in the States, and everyone’s denied involvement.”

“We’ll let you know what we find out,” I say.
