I push myself through the bodies and make it to the back where the bathrooms are. There’s a short line of people, all with their faces in their phones. Lake is leaning against the wall at the end of the hallway. He waggles his brows at me when I approach and slips out through the door on his left. We end up outside in some kind of fenced-in courtyard. Somewhere to my left, there’s a door open, and the music and noise from the bar spills out.

I barely get a look around, because almost as soon as the door clicks shut behind me, he’s on me. My back slams against the wall. His tongue is in my mouth. His knee pushes between my thighs. His hands roam over my body. The back of my head smashes against the bricks, but I barely feel it. I slide my hands under his shirt until I can feel his bare skin against mine. I groan into his mouth.

Desire surges and zips through my body. Lake’s hands clutch the front of my T-shirt and twist the fabric between his fingers, knuckles grazing my chest every now and then, like this is the only thing keeping him from losing his mind completely.

My dick hardens until it’s painful, and him rubbing himself against me is the ultimate tease.

I let out a sound of protest when he wrenches his mouth away. He leans his forehead against the wall next to my head and starts to laugh.

I turn my head and nuzzle into the hair behind his ear.

“Missed you today,” I murmur into his ear.

He stills for a moment before he blows out a breath like he’s bracing himself.

And then…

“Me too,” he says, very quietly.

“Any chance we can just get out of here?” I ask.

He laughs again. “Would be difficult to explain later, I imagine. So we should probably go back inside now and hang out with your friends for a little bit.”

I thump the back of my head against the wall. “It’s not like I’m that close with them anyway.”

He smiles at me and presses a soft kiss to my lips before he takes a step back, grabs my hand and pulls me away from the wall.

I make a face. “Go inside. I need a second, or there will be a lot of questions about why I’m coming out of a bathroom with a massive boner.”

He sends me an amused look. “Want me to tell you disgusting facts about the human body? I’ve got a stack of those.”

“No. My brain is horny enough right now that I’ll just find whatever you say sexy.”

“You poor thing.” He steps closer, and I take a generous step back.

I point to the door. “Inside. Now.”

He looks at where my dick is still straining against the zipper of my pants and licks his lips before he grins and walks away.

Once he’s gone, I slump against the wall and wait. I’m sure the cold will eventually do the trick.

Even though it’ll probably take a while.

By the time I get back inside, Lake’s sitting at another table, opposite Hayes, and deep in what looks to be a heated debate with Soren.

“All I’m saying is if you had to choose between being talented and being lucky, and your end goal was to be successful, luck plays a bigger part in it than talent,” Lake says.

“You’re saying I’m here because I got lucky?” Soren challenges.

“Not just lucky. I’m not saying you don’t have skills,” Lake says. “I’m saying the order of importance in achieving success in any field is luck, followed by talent, followed by effort.”

Soren leans back and crosses his arms over his chest. “Dude, that’s just not right. Did Gretzky get lucky? Or, like… the Beatles?”

“Yeah,” Lake says calmly. “They had talent, but they definitely also got lucky.”

“Gretzky is the best player of all time!” Soren says. “Unmatched talent.”

“You can’t really claim unmatched talent. There might be plenty of other people who would’ve managed the same but were just born in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
