Santee’s hips rocked, his breathing quickening as he reached his climax. Beckett caught his release in his hand, not wanting to waste a single drop.

He pulled Santee close, holding him as they both came down from their high. Santee rested his head on Beckett’s shoulder, his breathing slowly returning to normal.

“How was I?” Santee murmured.

Beckett smiled, pressing a kiss to Santee’s forehead. “Fucking fantastic. Practice on me any time you want.”

He washed Santee’s body, taking his time to make sure every inch was clean. When they were finished, he turned off the shower and grabbed a towel, wrapping it around Santee’s shoulders before drying himself off.

Santee watched him with a small smile on his face. “Was I really okay?”

Beckett cupped his mate’s face and kissed him until they had to come up for air. “That guy was a moron. Your lips are the best thing to happen to my dick.”

Santee burst out laughing, and that was what Beckett wanted to see, to hear.

“Let’s get dressed so we can head to the hospital.”

An hour later, they were walking inside Falls General, Beckett’s head on a swivel. Cormac had gone with them, but Hayden had gone into town to keep an eye on his mate, who was working at the bakery today, just in case shit went down and Marvell found out about Bran.

Beckett doubted the guy would find out so fast, but none of them were willing to take a chance. Ducan agreed to stay home—though Beckett knew his brother wanted to come with them—to keep an eye on Milly and the house, for the same reason Hayden had gone to babysit his mate.

They didn’t want to take a chance that Marvell might strike while they were away.

Beckett stayed right behind Santee as his mate approached the information counter and asked what room Orion Keplin was in. Once Santee knew, it was Beckett who led the way, Cormac pulling up the rear.

Beckett’s cheetah snarled the entire time, as if it could feel the danger they were in. They finally reached Orion’s room, and to Sheriff Harper’s word, there was a deputy outside his door.

Deputy Cannon Lowery, a lion shifter. “You here to see Mr. Keplin?”

Beckett nodded. “My mate wants to visit his friend.”

Lowery looked Santee over. “Sheriff Harper didn’t say you were coming by, Beckett.”

“Can you call him?” Santee asked, sounding worried that the deputy wouldn’t let him in.

“The sheriff is dealing with something right now,” Lowery said to Santee. “I don’t want to call him, so go on in, but only one of you at a time.”

Santee turned to Beckett. “I’ll go in since he doesn’t know you or Cormac.”

Beckett didn’t like letting his mate into the room, even though Santee would be secure inside there. He didn’t want to let his little bunny out of his sight.

Luckily there was a small window in the door where Beckett could keep an eye on him. “I’ll be right here if you need me.”

With a nod, Santee entered the room.

The hospital room was dimly lit, but Santee saw that his friend was awake, a food tray sitting off to his right.

What was Santee supposed to say? It was his own brother who’d attacked Orion, who’d put the human in the hospital. He wasn’t even sure their friendship would survive something like this. “I’m so sorry.”

Orion groaned as he pushed his way into a sitting position. “At first, I told myself that I never wanted to see you again.”

That broke Santee’s heart, but he understood if Orion kicked him to the curb. Anyone would be traumatized by what had happened, even going so far as to blame the family members of their attacker.

“But you were just as much a victim,” Orion went on. “I knew something was wrong at your house, because you used me to sneak away.”

“I never used you,” Santee corrected.
