“For a profit?” Marvell chuckled. “I don’t need the money, dear brother, though I shouldn’t be surprised you know about that. I only took the money because, well, you can never have too much.”

“Then why?”

“The thrill.” Marvell winked. “The adrenaline rush of watching those people think they have a chance of getting away, only to be hunted down. It was so much better watching those hunters go after them than if I did it myself. There’s just something about watching someone else make the kill that gets your heart pumping.”

Santee looked incredulously at his brother. “You really are a monster.”

Marvell gave a playful shrug. “Maybe I am. Too bad you and your friend won’t live long enough to tell anyone anything I’ve confessed to you.”

The door behind them burst open, slamming on its hinges. Beckett stood there, blood coating his arm. Santee had never been happier to see anyone in his life.

“Your friends are dead, so it’s just me and you. Now get the fuck away from my mate,” Beckett snarled, his canines at full length.

“Or what?” Marvell taunted as he moved closer to Santee and Orion. “I’ll kill you before you have a chance to get anywhere near them.”

Beckett snorted. “I’m sorry.” He held up his hand. “I’m trying to take you seriously, but in the end, you’re a fucking bunny, no matter how jacked you are.”

Marvell bared his canines at Beckett.

Beckett chuckled, and Santee didn’t see what was so dang funny. He could even feel Orion shaking behind him.

“You’re the least intimidating person I’ve ever met.” Beckett smirked. “It’s like Bugs Bunny threatening me.”

Why on earth was Beckett being antagonistic toward Marvell? Was Santee’s mate crazy, too?

Marvell snarled as he lunged for Beckett. Orion shouted when Beckett shifted into his cheetah form, knocking Marvell off his feet with well-placed paws to the chest.

“I’ve lost my fucking mind,” Orion squeaked from behind Santee. “This is all a hallucination.”

Marvell twisted until he was out from under the cheetah then stood in a fighting pose, fists at the ready. Santee knew his brother was strong. He’d felt Marvell’s fists many, many times. He still couldn’t believe his brother was going to fight a cheetah while he was still in human form, but then again, what could his bunny form do against such a large predator?

Which made Santee feel foolish for not telling Beckett everything in the beginning. But Santee had lived in fear of his brother for over a century, and that fear wasn’t something you could simply forget about.

The cheetah pounced, clamping his jaws onto Marvell’s bicep. Marvell howled, trying to shake the large cat off of him as Santee grabbed Orion and moved them out of the way when the two came stumbling in their direction.

Then the lights went out. Santee could see, but it was disconcerting that Beckett was fighting in the dark.

Until Santee saw two flames floating in front of him. He gasped, gripping harder onto Orion as he shouted, “Beckett, behind you!”

The lights flickered back on, and to Santee’s astonishment, three men stood there, looking so feral that he was about to wet himself.

One guy—he had long black hair, gray eyes, and a goatee, and was downright frightening—moved forward and snatched Marvell out of Beckett’s clutches. Beckett shifted into his human form, snarling at them. “He’s my kill!”

“This goes beyond Marvell interfering in a mating,” the guy said. Santee smelled wolf on him. “This is about what he’s done to his own kind.”

Beckett balled his hands into fists. “He abused Santee his entire life,” he argued. “He was about to kill my mate until you guys showed up.”

“Who exactly are they?” Santee asked.

The tallest one, the guy with whiskey-colored eyes, pressed a hand to his chest and gave a slight bow. “I am Panahasi. This is Maverick and Christian.”

Santee swallowed roughly and took a step back. He’d heard of the Ultionem, and he recognized the names given, but to see them in person not only blew his mind but scared the mess out of him.

“I’ll go erase memories,” Christian said but stopped and looked at Santee. “Does the human need his memories erased?”

Orion ducked fully behind Santee. “Please don’t melt my brain.”

Christian smiled, which made him ten times more handsome. “I would not hurt anyone who doesn’t deserve it. Do you want to remember what went on here?”
