“Rocky?” The name slips out just as my mind connects the dots. “Are you talking about Rocky?”

“How much will it take for you to leave him alone? I know your kind. Just a little money, and you’ll be gone.”

“Who the hell are you?”

“I am the man who has devoted his life to managing Rocky’s career, and you are getting in the way of that, little girl,” he growls dangerously. “Now tell me how much you want to disappear from his life.”

“I don’t want your money,” I say, annoyed.

“He will leave you,” the man says, his words like a dagger to my heart. “Look it up. Rocky never dates a woman for longer than a few weeks before moving on to the next, so you might as well take the money and cut your losses before you join the long line of broken hearts in his wake.”

His eyes turn pitying when I shake my head, but he doesn’t stop me when I shove past him this time.

He’s lying.

What Rocky and I share is special. I know it is.

Sure, we didn’t start out on the right footing, but everything since has been smooth sailing. He makes me feel safe and desired. Makes me believe that everything we’ve done so far has been uniquely us. I may not have been his first like he was mine, but what we have shared has meant something, right?

That old man’s warning messes with my focus all day, and when I can’t take it anymore, I do the one thing I should have done from the start. I look up Rocky and all the women he’s been with in the past.

There are many.

Despite his crude words and menacing appearance, the old man was telling the truth. Rocky has never maintained a relationship beyond a couple of weeks. I am nothing like the gorgeous model-types he’s dated in the past.

The man I have given my heart to is destined to leave me soon. I was wrong to think I could wait for Rocky’s confession, because now I know that it’ll never come.

Chapter Six

Rocky

She’s avoiding me.

Again!

Goddamnit!

I understood before why she would want to avoid me, but now, I am mad. No, I am beyond that. I am livid. When she left this morning, everything was fine, but she’s been ignoring my calls all evening and won’t answer her door.

She cannot pull this little stunt whenever she’s upset about something, and unlike the first time, I’m not going to let her get away with it.

My phone has been ringing all day with my manager’s name flashing on the screen, but I am not in the mood to deal with him right now. Yes, I know my fight is tomorrow night with thousands of people coming to watch it, but I can’t think of that right now. I can’t focus on the fight or anything else until I know where Dawn and I stand. I need to find her and clear the air once and for all.

This time when I seek her out, there are no roses in my hand or apology in my lips, only the need to punish my little neighbor for daring to think she can create this distance between us.

It’s late at night when I can’t take it anymore and decide to knock on her door one more time. I stop right outside her unit and pound my fist against the door heavily, ready to break it down if she doesn’t open it, but this time, the door swings open to reveal dazed eyes and wild ruffled hair. She’s wearing a shirt she took from my closet the other day, and seeing her in my clothes sends blood rushing to my cock, and just like that, I am as hard as a rock. I want to back her against the wall, raise the shirt to her waist, and fuck her until we’ve woken all our neighbors.

Fuck, seeing her beaded nipples push hard against the material is enough to drive me crazy.

How long has it been since I have been inside of this woman? Ten hours? Fifteen? It feels like days.

“Rocky, it’s midnight.” Dawn yawns and runs her fingers through her hair, messing it up even more. It’s a simple move that has no right looking so goddamned sexy.

I push my thoughts away from her body, eyes moving to my wristwatch, and realize that she is right. I thought it was much earlier than that, but then again, I have done nothing but stew about her silence all day, and I have lost concept of time. An apology for waking her up is at the tip of my tongue and perhaps I would voice it if I wasn’t so angry about her avoiding me.

“We need to talk,” I say, pushing back the desire to fuck her in the doorway and instead back her into her apartment before shutting the door behind me.

“W-what are you doing?” she stammers when her eyes connect with my angry ones.
