“Aren’t you worried it’s going to be too much?” he asks without a hint of arrogance or condescension. It’s only concern that has him questioning.

“I’m terrified it’s going to be too much, but her therapist thinks it what she needs. To be pushed out of her comfort zone.”

He nods then releases me to the elevator.

It’s nearly five when I finally walk back into my penthouse. “Zoey,” I yell. “I’m back.”

“It’s about damn time,” she yells back, nerves and tension very obvious in her voice.

I walk into the bathroom where she’s sitting in front of her makeup table – or whatever it’s called – with huge roller things in her hair. “It’s okay, Angel. We still have plenty of time. The party starts at seven. Doesn’t mean we have to be there at seven.”

She glares at me through the mirror. I have to hold back a laugh because that will only make her angrier. Her anger is cute though. And relieving.

“Is Zane riding with us? Are we picking him up?” she asks with the same angry tone.

“We’re actually going by limo, baby. It will be here at six forty-five. Then we’ll get Zane,” I explain all of this while running my electric trimmer over my face. I never clean shave, even for events like this. It’s just not me.

She turns in her chair so quickly, I’m worried she might get whiplash. “I thought it takes an hour to get to Helios.”

“I said it can take an hour to get there is traffic doesn’t cooperate. It usually takes about forty-five minutes.”

“That means we’ll be thirty minutes late,” she said with a look of terror.

“Zoey, seriously? It’s a New Year’s Eve party. Not a job interview,” I rankle, getting more than a little agitated at her attitude.

“But it’s your job. And Zane’s. I don’t want you to look bad.”

And I feel bad.

She’s worried about me and Zane. It’s sweet, but unnecessary. “It’s still just a party, baby.”

I turn on the shower, adjusting the temperature prior to removing my clothes. Her eyes follow me in the mirror. It takes every ounce of self-control I have not to drag her in there with me. I’m pretty sure that, while she may enjoy what happens in there, it would only set her off more afterward.

That doesn’t mean I don’t give her a show, though. I make sure she can see every inch of my body as I shower. She squeezes her thighs together when I give my cock a couple of long strokes.

I laugh when she moans then huffs turning her eyes and attention back to her hair and makeup. “I hate you by the way,” she fusses.

“Except you don’t,” I tease as I climb out of the shower.

When I put on my tux, I instantly regret the show I gave her as my erection presses tightly against my pants. Quickly I try to think of every turn off I can. I’m completely dressed before the blood flow returns to my brain.

I make my way downstairs just in time to hear the door open. Zane walks in with Tori on his arm grinning like an idiot followed by Maddox and Olivia. Olivia looks stunning with her pale blond hair flowing down her back with a black dress contrasting against her pale skin. Tori on the other hand is still wearing what she had on at Zane’s apartment. Jax and Maddox look just like me. Uncomfortable and penguin like.

I’ve always known there was a reason I hate to wear a tux. They’re confining and stiff on everyone. Not to mention, for the most part, it makes every man in a place look like a carbon copy of the other. Like a bunch of penguins. Cliché I know, but it’s the truth.

I feel absolutely ridiculous in this thing. I’m pretty sure I look ridiculous too. And the damn tie feels like it’s choking the life out of me.

“Thought we were getting you at your place,” I say as I take the ladies coats and hang them in the closet.

“Limo called and asked if they could stop at my place first since it’s before your place on the way to Helios,” he explains taking a seat on the sofa. He moves one way and then another trying to get comfortable. He hates a damn tux as much as I do.

Maddox on the other hand, looks totally relaxed. “How do you do that?” I ask him. His head tilts to the side, not understanding my question. “Wear that damn thing and look totally relaxed in it.”

He looks down at himself before he shrugs. “I spent a lot of time at business functions with my dad growing up.”

I nod then offer everyone drinks. After I pass out the beers requested by the guys and the glasses of wine requested by the girls, everything gets quiet, but not awkwardly so.

I look at my watch to see that it’s nearly seven. “Zoey, you ready?” I call down the hallway.
