I heard my leg snap the moment she hit me. Then I connected with her windshield before rolling off and hitting the pavement. Then everything went black.

And I mean black. There was no thought. No dreams. Nothing until I came to in the back of the ambulance. Panicked at first, questioning about Lily, but they assured me she was okay. Just in shock. And in the ambulance behind us.

“You think she was following you?” Henry asks after I tell him what I remember.

“No.” If I didn’t notice her slowing down before the light, I wouldn’t be so certain.

“I guess that’s better than stalking you both. Again.” His head rolls over his shoulders as he vibrates with irritation and anger. He’s losing his temper. Which means the next words out of his mouth are, “I told you when we were kids she was a psycho bitch. Wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t get pregnant on purpose.”

I don’t have the energy for an argument that’s been ongoing for over twenty years. There’s no point in it. Not when I wouldn’t change it if I could.

“I need a favor,” I tell him.

His hand rises, palm forward, as he nods. “It’s already done. I’ve had two guys on her since the accident.”

“How’d she take it?” I grin, glad he dealt with it instead of me.

It doesn’t make me a bitch. I told you, I’m tired.

“Better than Trouble when I put guys on her the first time. I was surprised, but it turns out her dad used to make her have a bodyguard on some of her foreign trips. Especially when she was with her mom.”

What the fuck? That was anticlimactic. “At least she’ll be cooperative,” I huff.

“Yeah. We’ll see. Just because she didn’t throw a fit doesn’t mean she’ll make my job easy.”

Does it make me an asshole that idea makes me happy?

Yeah. It does. But she wouldn’t be my girl if she made anything easy.

Liam

Holy fuck.

Maddox screwing with me in the hospital was nothing compared to this agony. Every slight jostle feels like my bones are shifting beneath my skin. My entire left side feels like it’s being torn apart, ground, and then each sliver pieced back together with a needle and thread.

If that makes me a little bitch, then I’m a little fucking bitch. But fuck, this shit hurts.

I have cursed more in the last forty-five minutes since we left the hospital than I think I have in my life. I may or may not have threatened to beat Henry’s fucking ass once I can.

Right now, I can’t fight Giselle when she jumps into my lap as soon as Henry parks my chair in the living room.

“Want out of the chair?” he asks me with an evil smirk. I have yet to understand what I’ve done to these assholes to make them such assholes.

Okay, Maddox, I get, even though I apologized, but Henry…

Then again, I’m the one who gave him shit about Ashleigh all those years ago.

Then I gave him shit every time he went on a bender.

I may have given him shit about Ashleigh again when he kidnapped her like a psycho. I can’t remember.

“I hate you,” I mutter under my breath and nod. He chuckles as he wraps an arm under my right one, helping me to my good leg. “Goddamn, mother fucking, son of a bitch,” I growl as he helps me to the sofa.

“Language, Liam,” my mother chastises as she flutters around, deciding her course of action.

I hate to burst her bubble, but whatever she’s planning ain’t happening.

Unfortunately, when my mother is on track, it’s hard to derail her.
