Coach won’t like me moving out of the house and away from the other guys so soon, but he’ll live with it.

Summer extends her hand. “Shake on it?”

My mouth fucking waters as I slide my hand into hers, feeling the smooth softness of her palm against my own. Her fingers are so lithe and delicate, soft as clouds. I imagine lacing my fingers with hers, pressing her hands over her head while I’m above her, thrusting …

I pull my hand away before my cock tents in my pants and Summer gets so freaked out that she calls this whole thing off.

“There’s a party this Friday I’d like us to go to,” Summer says. “Sean will be there.”

The thought of having my hands all over Summer while that asshole ex of hers, the piece of shit who made her cry, looks on seething with jealousy brings a dark smirk to my face.

“It’s a date.”

SUMMER

My stomach is tight and full of butterflies as I stand next to Hudson in front of the Phi Mu Alpha house.

This is the hard launch of our fake relationship. The first time we’re really appearing together in public, around people I know, around my friends, as a couple. I know that word spread like a wildfire after that very public kiss Hudson planted on me, but tonight we jump headfirst into the lie.

Speaking of that kiss … I’ve hardly been able to think of anything else since.

How firm Hudson’s lips were, how insatiable his tongue was in my mouth, how strong his hands felt on my hip and on the side of my neck, how …

“Ready?” Hudson’s voice pulls me out of my thoughts. And that’s a good thing, because my nerves are already fluttery. The last thing I need is to be all hot and bothered by memories of the most scorching kiss of my life.

I square my shoulders, puff out my chest, and try to summon a surge of confidence. “Ready,” I force out.

I press the doorbell.

As the door opens, my breath catches—because Hudson’s just splayed his big hand across the small of my back. My nipples tighten under my shirt at the possessive gesture.

Garrett, a flute major, stands behind the open door. His eyes go wide when he sees me and Hudson together. There’s a spark in his expression that says something like, so it’s true.

“Hi, Garrett,” I greet him.

“Summer. Hey.” His eyes track to Hudson. This is probably the first time a hockey player’s ever come to a PMA party. Other than music majors, you’ll find plenty of drama majors, art majors, lit majors, and other assorted artsy types at a Phi Mu Alpha get together, but rarely will you spot an athlete.

Hudson stands out anywhere, but he’ll especially stand out here.

“Hey, Garrett. Hudson.” My fake boyfriend introduces himself.

“Hey, man,” Garret replies, still looking off-kilter. He steps back from the doorway. “Come on in.”

Sparks skitter across my skin as I feel the light pressure of Hudson’s hand pushing on the small of my back, guiding me to enter ahead of him.

It’s impossible not to feel the weight of the curious glances that snap in our direction when we’re inside.

Anxiety claws up my chest. I’ve never been a good liar. I hate lying! How in the world am I going to pull off a fake relationship with a guy I don’t even know? With someone as public as Hudson, who everyone on campus is going to recognize in a couple weeks when the hockey season starts? How am I …

My thoughts grind to a halt when Hudson laces his fingers through mine. All I can think about is the firm, gentle possessiveness of his hand clasping mine. Heat suffuses through me. How is his hand rough and soft at the same time?

Hudson flashes me a quick wink. “How about a drink … babe?” Amusement, and maybe something more, flashes in his eyes when he says that pet name.

I feel the vibration of his low, rumbly voice calling me babe deep in my center. Yeah, a drink is exactly what I need right now.

I tell Hudson as much, and he leads me through the crowded living room of the PMA house to the kitchen. Interested looks continue to track our movement.
