Not only was I in a situation I couldn’t control with one of our members, but Edwin Lyons defended me. Made me feel safe. Held my hands and touched my hair.

Then basically put me on the same level as his daughter.

This is so fucked.

I need to get the hell over all of this, starting now.

But the feelings in my chest don’t go away.

Okay. Now.I’m starting now.

Dammit. It’s not going to be that easy, is it?

EDWIN

A month of Sonia. And I’ve somehow managed to keep myself from going feral on her. I would say that’s an accomplishment considering how my blood simmers any time she’s near.

That’s why I stay away, for the most part.

However, since the incident with Oliver Worthington, I have been on high alert. I’ll be damned if anyone is going to fuck with Sonia.

She’s the best manager we’ve ever had.

And also, she’smine.

I know I can’t have her, but she makes all my instincts flare. I can’t look at her without the word “mine” blaring at me.

That knowing feeling that we belong to each other is so rooted inside me that I have a hard time fighting it twenty-four-seven.

Even if I much prefer to spend my Saturdays out of the fray, I have to come in today because it was the only available time I had to meet a prospective new member who might fill Oliver Worthington’s spot.

We’ve already gone through the vetting and interviewing with him; he seems to be a perfect candidate. Now, he just has to come in and tour the facilities, and according to tradition, that’s up to me. And since I grew up breathing this place, who better to do the honors than the owner himself?

I find Marty Villanueva in front of the member’s-only entrance.

He is squinting his eyes at the door, trying to figure it out.

I hold back a laugh. “Villanueva!”

“Ah! Lyons!”

We shake hands.

His smile is open and honest. “Thanks for meeting me today.”

“Of course. I see you’re trying to figure out our door, huh?” I ask.

Villanueva laughs. “I am. No handle, no lock–”

“Noobviouslock.” I wave my smartwatch over a hidden indent on the wall. After a clicking sound, the door slides open. “Every member gets access via their phone or smartwatch.”

“That’s very James Bond of you!” Villanueva laughs.

“Indeed.” I chuckle. “Come on in, let me show you around.”

Marty and I enter the club, chatting away.
