And under his sharp gaze, I do. Always.

After circling for what feels like forever, Edwin stops in front of me. His focused expression seems much more suited for a boardroom than a dressing room. “Do you want it, Sonia?”

I hesitate. That would add at least another five k to the already growing receipt.

“Money is no object,” he reminds me. “I just need to know if you like it.”

Damn, it’s like he’s in my head.

He very well may be. Is that part of being my Dom?Knowing what I’m thinking before I say it? As long as he doesn’t use it against me, I’m alright with that.

I smile and nod. “Yes, I like it very much.”

“Then, we’ll take this one too.”

Rebecca grins.

I glance over at the rack of clothing. We’ve worked our way through everything, which means my time as a doll has come to an end, much to my disappointment. However, I hope to look forward to more opportunities like this in the future.

Edwin hums. “Rebecca, do you think we can take a look at that green piece that’s in the front window?”

“The Naeem Khan?”

I’ve never even heard the name, which makes me worry it’s even more expensive than the things I’ve already tried on.

“Yes, with the beading. And the flowers.” Edwin’s eyes settle on me. “I can’t help but think it was made for her.”

Rebecca cocks her head to the side and takes me in as well. “I think you’re right. Give me a few minutes, I’ll be back with it.”

Without another word, Rebecca hustles out of the room, leaving the two of us alone. At last.

“You didn’t have to do all this.” But I’m so grateful he did.

Edwin tucks his hands behind his back, standing tall. He’s so handsome and distinguished at all times, never a hair out of place. And even if thereisa hair out of place, it’s not actually out of place. He’s sculpted like an Adonis.

“I never do anything I have to, Sonia.”

Meaning, he wants to do this. For me. I will remember that. For every one of Edwin’s actions toward me, I will remember it’s because he wants to.

In the silence, Edwin extends a hand toward me. “Let me show you something.”

I take it, let him guide me off the pedestal I’ve been standing on to show off every outfit, and toward the big mirror that has served to reflect each and every outfit back toward me. He situates himself behind me, hands on my shoulders. “Do you see?”

I don’t know what I’m supposed to be looking for.

He strokes my cheek with the back of his hand. I watch how his eyes fall to the reflection of my lips. “Do you see how beautiful you are, Sonia?”

Leaning into his touch, I shake my head. My skin looks sallow from a long day, bags under my eyes growing heavier. My hair needs a wash, yet again, and my makeup has all but crumbled off my face. “I don’t see it quite the way you do, I think.”

“Well, that’s just a crime.” He kisses my temple, his hands falling to my waist. “What about the men before me? They were never able to make you realize how beautiful you are?”

I get a lump in my throat. The men before me…Edwin doesn’t want to know about the men before him, I guarantee it.

“Answer me, Swan.”

His tone is a shock to my system in the best way. I’ve only known this Edwin in The Underground. Where he’s in control of me. Taming me. “No, they never were.”

“Pathetic. They didn’t deserve you, then.”
