I shake my head, taking a seat, letting the white tablecloth waterfall into my lap. “It’s not everyday someone gets engaged.”

“That’s true.” Sonia tears into the gift and beams at the sight of the mirrored frame. “Oh my gosh, you got it engraved?”

I did indeed. A pretty frame that has Sonia and Edwin’s names engraved on it along with the date of their engagement.

When I got it back from the engraver, I felt a wave of acceptance.

That’s how it should be. Two names. Two people in love.

Not three. Not two men loving one woman. It just doesn’t make sense any other way.

I shake off the thought. I’ve been pressing thoughts of Mason and Nate to the back of my brain, shoving them behind boxes of other shit, except there’s not much other shit to think about other than work and sometimes calling my mom.

“I’m sorry I didn’t have a photo of you two to put inside, but I thought–” I begin.

Sonia waves her hand. “No, I have the perfect one.”

“Oh my gosh, the one of you two dancing after he asked?” Bridget clutches her heart.

“How did you know?” Sonia grins.

“That’s perfect. It will look perfect.”

While Bridget and Sonia muse over the frame, Abigail grabs my hand. “We missed you at the engagement.”

Sonia had invited me to that too, however I declined. Work. Which was true.

I did technically have work that night. But my new client is a kind older woman who treats me more like I’m a granddaughter than her live-in PT. I’m sure she would have allowed me to skip out on one night.

However, work is my best and favorite excuse.

“I’m sorry to have missed it.” I force a smile. “The pictures I saw looked beautiful.”

“Oh, it was, it was,” Sonia says. “Totally magical. And I didn’t expect it at all.”

Bridget rolls her eyes. “Yeah, sure, like you weren’t dropping hints to Nate for like a month.”

“More like two,” Abigail adds.

The mention of Nate’s name makes my mouth hot.

I don’t hear another word they say because now my mind is on him. Thinking of him. Wondering about him. How he’s doing. How he looked that night.

And with thoughts of Nate, thoughts of Mason are quick to follow. An image of them on my bed, wishing they could give their entire selves to me. Begging me to allow them to love me.

The memory of that haunts me.

Because it still feels so good. My skin prickling with memory of their touches, caresses, kisses.

Sonia’s voice interrupts my spiraling thoughts. “Laney?”

I refocus. “Huh? Yes?”

Bridget, Abigial, and Sonia all look at each other.

With a delicate clearing of her throat, Bridget smiles. “You kind of just completely zoned out. Like you went to a different planet.”

“I…I did?” I feel hot around the collar. Am I sweating? I think I’m sweating. Maybe it’s the steaming tea they all have.
