I am enjoying a job, I’ve repaired a relationship with my father and my family, and I’m in love. Emphasis on the last one in that list.

I’m inlove. And that makes everything brighter and more colorful.

Dad’s smile returns.

We part ways in the hallway, not before he gives me a small pat on the arm, very daddy-ish of him.

Then, I head into the foyer.

I’m greeted with a beautiful image. Laney in Mason’s arms, inches away from kissing, the two of them talking close and low, giggling a bit too. A far cry from the awkwardness that used to be present when the two of them were in the same room.

I wait to be noticed, not wanting to interrupt and, if I’m to be honest, enjoying watching them.

Watching her being loved by him only strengthens my love for her. I am able to learn and grow from the way Mason gives himself to her and vice versa.

We are able to be better in this relationship because we are able to guide each other, give each other advice, and support each other.

Mason eventually raises his gaze and blushes. “Hey Nate.”

Laney relaxes her embrace, smiles in my direction.

“How’s it going, man?” I grab my shoes and plop down on the entryway bench to slip them on.

“I mean, could be better. You really think Seth and Jack would be mad if we brought Laney around?”

Laney laughs. “I can answer that for you.Yes.”

Mason grumbles. “We need to get them girlfriends. Then we can have like quadruple dates instead of guys’nights. Or…what would it be since we’re both with Laney? Triple dates.”

“You’re ridiculous,” I get to my feet and go to Laney, wrapping an arm around her waist. “How are you going to busy yourself tonight?”

“Dinner. A good book. Boring.”

I kiss her cheek. “Well, we’ll try and cut it short so you’re not alone too long.”

“Actually…” Laney trails off, placing a hand against Mason’s arm, connecting us in a chain. “I thought I might go over to Mason’s.”

My heart sags with disappointment.

“Since it’s easier to get privacy there than here,” she goes on. “And then you two can come over, and we can have a nighttogether.”

Okay, no longer disappointed, just aroused.

“Jesus, Lane, you can’t get us all worked up before we’re going to see our friends,” Mason groans, rubbing a hand over his face.

“Yeah, yeah, I think you’ll live.” She grins. “Now, kiss me goodbye.” She pulls him by the collar and snags a kiss, then gives me one too.

Laney snakes her way out of my arm, and I sigh. “You don’t think we can cancel, do you?” I ask Mason.

“You two are ridiculous! Go!” She waves her hand.

Takes everything in me not to run over and grab her again, kiss her, drag her back into my bedroom, and–

No. I’m a big boy. I can do this. “Bye, Laney.”

“See you later,” Mason adds.

From the hallway, she twiddles her fingers. “Bye, boys.”
