And that makes me sad. Because I couldn’t be a part of it. I wouldn’t be part of that picture.

For some reason, though, the thought of us three goes straight to my dick. An image flashes in my mind, Nate fucking Laney on my bed as I watch.

I don’t hate it.

I try to imagine her with some other man. Seth. Jack. Some stranger from the subway. And I can’t. The mere thought of her with another man makes my blood boil. Yet imagining her with Nate and then her returning to my arms makes me hot in ways that it shouldn’t.

What the fuck is wrong with me?

Seth opens his wallet and pulls out four tickets. “Okay, next week, Knicks. Courtside seats. Who’s coming?”

Jack gasps and goes to grab one. “How the hell did you get those?!”

Seth pulls them out of his reach. “I know a guy.”

Nate scoffs, “You know a guy? What is this, some weird drug money thing?”

“No!” Seth shrugs. “Solomon gave them to me.”

We all exchange looks.

“Bought them off some guy at the club. Guess he thought it would be some sort of peace offering.”

I snort. “Jesus, how many stepdads try for ten years to make their stepson like them?”

Seth rolls his eyes, putting the tickets away, and snapping the wallet shut. “It must be my mom. You know how she’s always trying to push us to hang out and get along. He’s a nice enough guy, but…anyway. Who’s in?”

I point at Nate’s younger brother. “Jack, if it weren’t obvious from his grabby hands.”

Jack sneers. “Hey!”

I laugh and so does Nate.

Seth looks at me. “You in, Lotts?”

“Oh, that’s a given.” I look at Nate. “Lyons?”

Nate’s face contains an apology, and my gut twists.

IknowI’m not going to like what he has to say.

“I’d love to, guys, but I’m going to be out of town.”

Jack quirks an eyebrow. “Out of town? Since when?”

“Dad didn’t tell you? I’m going to the cabin.”

My blood runs cold.

I haven’t been to the cabin since the weekend after Laney broke up with me. When my whole world fell apart.

I don’t have the ability to speak. Though I have thousands of questions, I know I won’t like any of the answers.

“No,” Jack snorts. “Dad doesn’t keep me apprised of your business. Not that there’s much other than the whole learning how to walk again thing.”

Nate slaps his brother on the arm. “Shut up, ass.”

His eyes dart to mine but only for a second.
