I want to ask him what the hell he’s doing, tell him he doesn’t have to let me down easy. Not like this. But I can’t.

His touch…goddamn, it’s so good.

So right.

“Look at me, Laney.”

Our eyes meet. Blue on blue. Ocean and ice amalgamating.

Nate reaches for my face, brushes a loose lock of hair away from my cheek, and tucks it behind my ear. A crisp smile on his lips. “You don’t have to apologize because I liked it. I wanted it.”

His words may as well be in a different language. “What?”

My pulse skyrockets as he leans in toward me.

I find myself leaning toward him too, but Nate stops just an inch short of kissing me.

“I wanted you to kiss me.”

His lips seal against mine. One chaste kiss.

Nate pulls back. “I liked it when you kissed me.” His words caress my mouth before he kisses me again.

Once more, he breaks the kiss, but this time, his lips hover over mine. “Ineedyou to kiss me.”

“Oh, my g–”

Nate kisses me again with all the passion I’ve wished for and imagined.

His hands slide around my face, holding me to him, tender and yet insistent.

It’s even better than our first kiss. Because now I have no questions. No reservations. Everything is spelled out for me.

Nate wants me.Needs me.

And god, I need him too.

I am so ready to give in.

As I grab at his waist, fisting the fabric of his shirt in my hands, I lean toward him, pressing my chest to his, letting him feel the swell of my breasts.

Nate gasps into my mouth.

God, I love knowing I have this effect on him.

Nate’s fingers rake through my hair; he tugs slightly, parting our lips, his breath ragged. “Are we doing this?”

The world pauses.

I can’t even feel the light caress of waves under our pontoon or hear the dancing willow branches as they whisper past one another. “Do you want to?”

He nods before he speaks. “God, yes.”

I grin. “Same.”

“Cool.”

“Cool.”
