Her eyes find the blanket. “Here? Now?!”

I shrug. “I came prepared. Plus, you’re not a stranger to doing things outside, Laney Briggs.”

Laney tugs on her ponytail, threading her fingers through strands of her hair. “I wouldn’t know where to start.”

I take a step toward her.

Mason does the same from the other side of the clearing.

“I think the place to start is with a question.”

Laney’s shock now fades, giving way to a curious tilt of her head.

“So, Laney, answer me. Do you want to do this?”

LANEY

Yes.

That’s what I want to say.

But it’s not that simple. Is it?

For the past week, I’ve been eating my cake and having it too, alternating between the pleasures of Nate and Mason like it’s as simple as choosing waffles or pancakes for breakfast.

The reality is nowhere near that simple. They’re two living, breathing men with needs and desires that go beyond physical pleasure. There’s no reason for the two of them to settle for sharing one girl when they could each form their own legions.

Nate, with his swaggerish blond hair and twinkling blue eyes, would have no problem finding a girl who likes to surf at the Rockaways and uses natural deodorant with freckles and a laugh like silk.

And Mason’s green eyes alone would be able to snag the attention of some edgy leather maiden who rides cross country on a motorcycle and opens beer bottles with her teeth. They’d get matching tattoos.

I’m not perfect for either of them. And I’m certainly not perfect forbothof them.

They’re staring at me, waiting for an answer.

And it’s the quality in their gazes that gives me pause.

Begging for me to understand. Pleading with me to say yes.

Could it be possible that sharing me, even just this once, doesn’t feel like settling to them?

The sun is starting to make me overheated, though the temperature isn’t over sixty-five. My blood is pumping.

I want to strip off my sweater, go all the way down to my nakedness, take advantage of that blanket.

Take advantage of two men making their bodies available. To me.

“This is fucking crazy,” I whisper, then cover my mouth. That wasn’t supposed to come out.

Mason laughs loud, head thrown back. “Trust me, you’re not the only one who feels that way.”

The warmth of his voice feels just as good as his arms around me.

I glance back at Nate, and it’s the same feeling. All he has to do is look at me, and I’m home.

I remove my hand from my mouth and nod. “Okay. I mean. Yes. Yes, I want to.”
