Huddled in my crude cloak, I stepped out of the shuttle, eyes hesitantly roving over the colossal canyon, its stony walls as tall as mountains, a daring masterpiece etched out by time and wind. Nervousness pulsed at my temples as my gaze ascended further, finding caves upon caves, an elaborate labyrinth built into the canyon’s face. Kuzar’s tribe called this place home. Home was a grand word, a human word. For a gargoyle settlement, it appeared as ancient and wild as the mountains themselves.

I stumbled on uneven ground as Kuzar gracefully descended beside me. Even in the dim light of the cavern entrance, his sharp features were striking, and twin ridges arched over his deep-set eyes like a beast’s brow. His thick leathery hide, the color of aged granite, gave him a warrior’s prowess. A hint of swirling patterns beneath his scales with something beautiful in their complexity amazed me.

“Welcome home, Evie.” His voice echoed off the walls, rough like scraping stone, yet a smoky hint of something softer lay beneath. I dared not let him glimpse my fascination.

With an arrogant nod, he swept his arm across the expanse. “These canyons and caves are the dominion of the Goliath clan,” he declared, pride coloring his words.

Relief washed over some humans following us. Fear widened their eyes as they scanned the surrounding rocky terrain, searching for the rumored mines where humans toiled. I didn’t spot any such structures, at least not yet, but the wariness in the air was proof enough of their existence.

Kuzar seemed to sense their unease. “We do not tolerate indolence among our ranks,” he addressed them firmly, reaching for a mace strapped to his side. Its deadly spikes glinted menacingly. "We will reward those willing to work. Fail to do so, and you shall face the consequences.”

He measured his words with a formidable threat. The humans flinched their faces, a stark reflection of their vulnerability, their resignation. He turned to me then, an unreadable look in his eyes. “Evie, you shall live with me in my cavern,” he stated, gesturing for me to follow.

Stricken with apprehension, yet morbidly curious, I did as he said, my feet tracing a winding path through intricate tunnels, illuminated by dimly glowing crystals embedded in the walls. We stopped at one of the central caves to record our marriage.

My heart throbbed against my ribs as I perched on the rock, not missing the curious eyes of the gargoyles watching our every move. Their stony faces held no smile, no welcome, just cold judgment, and my stomach churned in response. This was to be my existence now, as the mate of a gargoyle warlord in this savage, prehistoric world.

His cave, when we arrived, was large and circular, lavishly adorned with animal pelts, bones, and crude stone carvings. In the center stood a hearth blazing with fire and the size of a human dwelling, and Kuzar gestured for me to sit near it.

Silence stretched between us, heavy as stone until, unable to bear it anymore, I made the first move, meeting his gaze head-on. “Why me?” My voice sounded small and hoarse. “Why did you choose me as your mate?”

A flash of surprise flickered in his eyes, then amusement took over. A strange sound, almost a chuckle, escaped his lips as if he found my question amusing. Leaning against the wall, he folded his muscular arms across his chest, watching me, studying me, like I was some uncharted puzzle.

“Choose you?” he echoed, amusement lacing his words. “Evie, my chieftain ordered me to wed a human. And our almighty Marriage Temple chose for me you.”

His words doused the spark of hope I hadn’t realized I’d been harboring. I was only a pawn in a game, a human chosen to fulfill a political bargain. Bitterness tightened my throat like a noose.

“But why you?” I insisted, my voice gaining an edge. “Why, out of all the humans, why me?” Gargoyles didn’t welcome humans here.

He met my gaze evenly, his eyes gleaming with a strange light. “That, Evie, is a question only the Marriage Temple can answer.” He sprang, his form blocking most of the firelight, and extended a hand. “Come, let me show you around my domain.”

Despite my reluctance, I took his hand and got to my feet, not wanting to show him any sign of weakness. Together, we explored his cavern and his domain, and I learned that despite the grandeur of his home, it was as cold as its master.

Kuzar remained a silent, imposing figure, his face a mask of indifference as he led me to his private chambers. My heart raced as we entered, the atmosphere thick with anticipation and dread. The dimly lit room glowed with crystals casting eerie shadows on the rough-hewn walls. A massive bed, draped in sumptuous furs, dominated the center of the chamber, and I couldn’t help but imagine the act that was soon to take place there.

He gestured for me to sit, his voice gruff and commanding, “Remove your garments.”

I hesitated, my hands trembling as I untied the laces of my simple dress. Beneath it, I wore nothing but a thin chemise. Kuzar’s eyes, piercing and unwavering, watched my every move.

With a deep breath, I slipped off the chemise, revealing my naked body to his hungry gaze. He rose from his seat, his movements fluid and graceful despite his massive size, and circled me like a predator stalking its prey. His eyes, keen as an eagle’s, missed nothing, taking in every curve, every blemish, every imperfection.

He reached out a hand, long and strong, and caressed my cheek. His touch was surprisingly gentle, and I couldn’t help but shiver at the contrast between his rough exterior and the tenderness of his touch. His fingers traced the line of my jaw, then down my neck, lingering at the hollow of my throat.

“You are beautiful.” He groaned, his voice low and husky. “In a way that differs from my kind.”

I couldn’t speak, my throat constricted with a mixture of fear and desire. He continued his exploration, his hands sliding down my arms, over my shoulders, and across my back. He paused at my waist, his fingers digging into my soft flesh as he pulled me closer.

His body was massive over me, and when he bent down to kiss me, the weight of his presence pressed hard into me. Firm and hot lips kissed me with a force that took my breath away. His tongue darted into my mouth, exploring every crevice, tasting every inch of me.

I moaned softly, unable to deny the pleasure that coursed through my body. He responded with a growl, his hands moving down to cup my breasts. They were large and heavy, and he kneaded them roughly, making me cry out in surprise.

He released my breasts and trailed his fingers down my stomach, coming to rest at the juncture of my thighs. He hesitated for a moment, as if seeking permission, then nuzzled aside the soft folds of flesh.

I gasped as his fingers delved inside me, exploring my most intimate place. He moved slowly, deliberately, savoring the sensation of me. I arched my back, my body instinctively opening to him, and he took full advantage.

Something thicker replaced his fingers longer, and slightly vibrated. I cried out again, a mixture of pain and pleasure. He thrust into me slowly, ripping into my virgin opening, filling me with his massive girth. I wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him closer, and he responded by increasing the tempo of his movements.

His thrusts were powerful, rhythmic, and relentless, and I lost in a haze of sensation.
