He nibbled on my ear, giving me no indication that he intended to let me. And given my predicament, there wasn’t a lot I could do about it.

With deliberate intention and keeping eye contact, Lukas began to thrust again, slower at first, but he kept picking up the pace until I was tipped over the edge, waves of pleasure tearing through me. He hit his peak only a few seconds later, thrusting deep as he filled me with his seed.

He groaned into my neck, his body covering mine as he throbbed inside me. Both of us were panting hard, entwined.

Slowly, he lifted himself off me a little more, giving me a few more kisses on the way. As he reached up to free my hands, I became aware of them again. At some point, it had just become part of the act, a detail to forget in the throes of passion.

As soon as I was free again, Lukas pulled me into his arms and wrapped us both in the covers.

“Another important part of me taking care of you is making sure after whatever we have done, you feel safe and cared for, so if it works for you, I’d like to cuddle for a bit. If you want to talk about anything, ask any more questions, or tell me how that made you feel, I’m listening, okay?”

I nodded and eagerly snuggled up against him, resting my head on his chest. Although I had definitely enjoyed what had happened between us, I didn’t know how I felt about being restrained, and it was going to take me a little while to process it.

One thing I did know for sure—I felt safe and wanted. And we had both clearly enjoyed ourselves.

CHAPTER FORTY-FOUR

Staying the night with Lukas had been magical. Walking into the site office after he had driven me to work was less amazing. Even if I came bearing the desserts from the previous night.

Everyone looked my way as Lukas said goodbye and drove off again, and even though I was wearing different clothes from the day before, since Lukas had swung past the apartment for me to freshen up, I still felt as if I was doing the walk of shame. They knew there was only one reason why he would be dropping me off.

I had stayed the night with Lukas, and everyone knew it. It didn’t help that I had the desserts from the restaurant the night before. It had seemed like a nice gesture at the time, but now my cheeks flushed with heat before I had even gotten to the door of the site office.

“Kit!” Richard exclaimed as he came out. He paused to hold the door open for me. “Wasn’t sure what time we would see you today, but Sarai is excited to see what you have for the next unit. Mentioned something about you going to that little market this morning.”

Crap, I thought as I walked closer, but Richard’s gaze went to the box in my hands.

“That looks like a takeout box from our favorite place.”

“It is,” I replied, grateful to change the subject already. “Desserts and cakes and all things full of sugar. Lukas got them, and I said I’d bring them in. Sadly, it is my only offering this morning.”

“We’ll take it. Any offering to the crew is a good offering.” Richard hurried away as soon as I went through the door, and then Sarai was already there, coming toward the door from her desk.

She held out her hands for the box, already coming to assist me.

“I heard you and Richard. That’s very sweet of you and Lukas,” she said, immediately taking them over to a small kitchen area and opening it up so she could see what they were and what needed to happen with them. She immediately tucked the ones that needed it into the fridge, then made a small sign on a piece of paper and stuck it across the front of the box so anyone who came in would know there were cakes and more in the fridge.

It was efficient, and the kind of thing that showed this wasn’t entirely uncommon. It was also the sort of task I’d expect someone in her position to delegate, but that was the great thing about Sarai and Richard. They didn’t mind doing a small job like that for the benefit of all.

“You look tired, my dear. Late night?” she asked as she came back over to the desks. Immediately, she smiled. “That’s probably a little rude of me to ask, given Lukas and his attentions to you. Say nothing on the subject if you don’t want to. Did the market have anything good?”

Although I wanted to tell her that I hadn’t found anything, I knew I couldn’t lie to her. Not when she had been so kind to me. I would just have to face the consequences.

“I’m sorry, I never went. By the time I was up and decent this morning, and with Lukas giving me a lift in, I just had to come straight here.” I frowned, hoping that Sarai wasn’t too angry that I hadn’t done my job.

“Hmmm...” She glanced at her watch. “We probably still have time if you want to go over there now?”

Wide-eyed, I nodded, hoping that she wasn’t too put out by it.

“Perfect. I have to admit, I was jealous about the thought of you going this morning without me. This way, I get to go with you, and I still had my meeting this morning. I often find that these things work out for the best.”

Sarai only took a moment to grab her jacket and purse, and then I followed her back out to the parking lot. I felt the shame and embarrassment leave me as Sarai chattered excitedly about all of the possible accessories and items of furniture the market might have.

True to her word, she didn’t pry at all about Lukas, and I was allowed to focus on work and not my personal life. Away from the site, no one else was around either, and I had gotten past the walk of shame moment. All I needed to do was make sure that it didn’t happen again. If I was with Lukas at night, it clearly needed to be the weekends only.

The market we were going to was indoors in an old abandoned warehouse and popped up here once a month—one of the reasons I had been planning on going early in the day and hadn’t really wanted to miss it. The best items were always available at the beginning. It could get harder to find anything decent if we turned up too late.

Although I wasn’t at the event as soon as I would have wished to be, we weren’t so late that everything good had gone, and we soon had wooden furniture for some of the more rustic huts and some lamps that would make great bedside lights.
