It was amusing to see the reactions to it. Peter was taking it in his stride and also conversing with whoever he was sitting beside, and Richard did his best, although it was clear he didn’t want Charisma and Janet sucking up to him, and while they continued to be polite, at least one of them wanted to spend all their time next to James.

From what I knew of the bachelor, both of them would be out of luck if they wanted anything more than a short fling. He liked having women around him, but he wouldn’t spend, and he didn’t usually tolerate insipid for long. Janet tried to talk to him for a short while, but he wasn’t interested.

Although both of them were well groomed, hair and nails immaculate and wearing figure-hugging dresses, they weren’t the thrill a good sub like Kit was proving to be. And I doubtedthat either of them had worked a hard day in their life. They were most certainly not my type.

As I found myself sitting next to James on one side and Richard on the other, with Kit moved to the other side of the table, for dessert I tried not to let it get to me that I had to make small talk with both of them. I liked Richard, but he began talking to Charisma on the other side of him, and that left me with James.

“Your current girl is cute. How long has she been around?” James asked, eyeing her up more than I’d have liked.

“She’s got a mind of her own, that one, but she’s been working for Sarai on the current project along with me. She’s sweet and relaxed. Not high maintenance. You know?” I knew that James didn’t. Not really. Every woman he chose was definitely high maintenance. The kind who would spend a fortune on beauty products and spa days.

James looked over at her a little longer and I tried to think of a way to distract him from her. The way he was looking at her made me uncomfortable.

“How did you meet Peter?” I asked when I noticed that was whom Kit was talking to.

“Business venture. Much like you. He’s in the business of helping creatives turn their talents into viable businesses. You said your girl was an interior designer?”

I nodded, both of us now staring at Peter and Kit as they talked. He was being very friendly to her and must have said something that made Kit laugh. The sound of her laugh was something I had always considered beautiful. Now, it was harsh and it drew attention.

Although I knew it wasn’t really wrong, I didn’t like the way Peter was talking to her. I wasn’t sure I wanted someone else helping her.

“If you don’t watch out, that one will try to steal her. Give her a career somewhere else and charm his way into her life instead. If you want her to continue looking up to you and worshiping at your feet, you might have to sweeten the deal. Or there’s one of my two. Both of them are…hot enough, if you know what I mean?”

“I get your drift, but I’m sure Kit knows what she’s doing. She’s a free woman, and if she thinks Peter is good for her career…or not, that is a decision she will make.”

James looked at me as if he couldn’t figure out whether to laugh or respond in some other way. I smiled and was grateful when the desserts arrived and interrupted. There was no way I was letting someone like James get under my skin, but I looked over at Kit again as a small chocolate cake was put in front of her.

As the waiter backed away, she looked at what she had been given—which I had ordered for her—and then she looked up at me. She gave me a slight smirk and fidgeted a little in her seat as if to remind me that she was still harboring our secret. My cock grew harder immediately. This whole thing was proving hot.

I just couldn’t be sure how much she really wanted me over anyone else. Had I given her a little too much confidence with the way I had been domming her? There was no way to be sure. I either had to trust her or not.

Thankfully James was quiet as he dug into his food. Then, Sarai, on the other side of him, drew his attention toward her. For a while, it gave me no one to talk to, and I took my time eating the pie I’d ordered while sneaking looks at Kit.

She was listening to Peter, but her attention appeared to be waning and I could see her growing more nervous, the familiar hand-rubbing showing once she finished her cake. Her companion seemed oblivious to it as he talked about something in a very animated fashion.

Finally, everyone was done eating and Sarai got up, deciding that she was done and wanted to go somewhere else. Before anyone could object, she hurried over to the nearest waiter and asked him to put the bill on her room tab.

James was the next to get to his feet, to go and profusely thank her and promise to pay for the next meal together. It was a lie, of course; some people were never the ones to pay. They avoided it by always waiting just long enough to see who else might pay.

It encouraged many of the rest of the party to get up and no doubt head somewhere to sit and drink until late. Kit stayed in her seat a little longer, and I couldn’t help but be aroused by her reluctance. She was remembering what would happen when she moved.

Her slower response gave me time to get around the table to her side, and I offered her my arm again. Although she still shifted slowly and tried to do so more smoothly and without jerking, she got to her feet and took my arm.

“Doing all right?” I asked, wanting to be sure she could handle more movement.

“For now. I think I might have to stop soon, depending on what your plans are for the rest of the evening.” Kit looked up at me with her big eyes and I wanted to respond that I was going to bend her over the table right where she was, pull the toy out myself and screw her so hard she forgot everything but my name. No matter who was watching us.

Of course, that’s not what I told her.

“I promised that it was up to you. If you have gone as long as you can, then stop. You have been wonderful so far and already trusted me with this experience enough that my only desire right now is to reward you and enjoy myself.”

She smiled up at me, warmth in her eyes, and I wished I could have gotten a window into what she was thinking. This daywas turning out to be a bit of a rollercoaster. One minute all I could think about was what might happen between us later, and then we would have issues with something. She got emotional. I grew jealous.

It was always something that could be innocent. Might not be a problem, but it could also not be. And I was growing tired of the second-guessing. Sometimes I just wanted to let go and trust, enjoy what was in front of me.

Kit stayed close to me the whole way to the small lounge off the bar. It was quiet in here, most people still at dinner or doing their own activities elsewhere for the evening. I escorted Kit all the way over to a chair and made sure she was settled before I got us drinks. After Sarai had picked up the bill for dinner, I made sure the first round of drinks was on me.

I didn’t particularly want to be buying them for James and his three hangers-on, but it seemed they were part of the group for now. I could afford a few drinks as long as that’s all it was. And then I could take Kit to bed and enjoy her.
