“Just my sparkling personality.”

I can’t suppress a giggle.

“I wish I had more to offer, but I don’t have anything else to give.”

Part of me genuinely wants to spend more time with Jackson outside of our therapy sessions.

I can’t believe I’m admitting that.

But it’s a slippery slope. I don’t want to develop feelings for him that are unrequited. The more time I spend with him, the harder that becomes.

"Fine," I relent. "But this better be the last time. I have my own life to focus on."

"Thanks," Jackson stands. “I really do appreciate it.”

"You have a charming place, Miss Parker," Kennedy compliments.

I smile. "Thank you."

Jackson heads to the door. "Be ready by ten tomorrow morning."

"Why?"

"I'm taking you for a spa day before the party. It’s the least I can do."

My jaw drops. "Oh. I like the sound the that. "

Chapter eight

Jackson

The purring jet engine slices through the morning air. What's taking them so long? My feet tap monotonously on the ground. What if she decides not to come?

My parents haven’t stopped talking about Brinn since the party. They claim she brings out the best in me. I don’t disagree. It’s hard continuing this ruse with them. They’re going to be so disappointed when I tell them the truth.

I’m getting nervous about Brinn’s reaction to my surprise. I left out a lot of details about the weekend’s events.

Finally, I hear an engine approaching. That must be them. Kennedy’s familiar black sedan pulls up to the private terminal. I see Brinn’s wearing a sleeveless crop top with baggy grey sweatpants when she exits the car. Clearly, she assumed she’d be inside today. She walks toward me, rubbing her arms as her body shivers.

I take off my overcoat and wrap it around her.

“What’s going on? I thought I was going to the spa.”

I run my hands through my hair, stalling. “You are. In Malibu. Surprise.”

“What?” she screeches.

Surprise is not going well so far.

“Is this your family’s private jet?”

“Yep. My grandfather bought it when I was a senior in high school. It makes trips to see clients in the city so much easier by avoiding the traffic. We also use it for pleasure sometimes.” I give her a boyish grin, hoping to calm the situation.

“So, what exactly is the plan?”

“We head to Malibu now and you get your spa day. You’re going to love it. This spa is reserved exclusively for high-profile clientele. You will be pampered like you could never imagine.” I inhale deeply before continuing. “Then, we’ll stay overnight and go to the baby shower in the morning.”

She’s speechless. But I don’t think that’s a good thing. I look at Kennedy, but he’s no help this time. This is all on me.
