Perfect.

He pulls back just a few inches. “Hey, Princess.”

I flex my fingers against his body. “Hey, Player.”

We stare at each other, both wanting to take more. But not indulging since we’re in the middle of a crowded casino.

Luke slides his hand down the back of my neck until both his arms are around me. “Wanna meet my friends?”

I bite down on my smile. “That was kinda adorable.”

“What was?” He lowers his brow.

“Just the way you asked.” I don’t want to tease him too badly, but it sounded just like a kid askingDo you want to see my room?

His mouth pulls to the side, like he’s reading my mind.

A tall guy with dark wavy hair steps up beside us. “I’m Ash, this asshole’s best friend.”

Ash holds out his hand.

Luke doesn’t release me, so I have to wedge an arm up from between us to take the offered shake. “Natalie. Nice to meet you.”

Another guy with lighter hair moves to stand beside Ash. “You’re not his best friend. I am.” He holds his hand out, and I think I recognize him from the penalty box. “I’m Zach.”

Letting go of Ash’s hand, I twist in Luke’s hold and take Zach’s.

“You guys are idiots.” A third guy with dark facial hair shoves in between both of them. “I’m Jackson, his real best friend.”

Luke groans as I stretch my arm even farther to shake Jackson’s hand. “I’m regretting all our friendships.”

Ash and Zach gasp.

Jackson shakes his head as he lets go of my hand. “This group is about as dramatic as they come.”

“I’m beginning to see that.”

Luke sighs and loosens his hold on me. But instead of stepping away, he turns so our sides are pressed together with his arm draped over my shoulder. “Which one of you besties is buying the first round?”

Chapter 50

Natalie

“Let’s sneak out of here,”Luke whispers against my ear.

I lean back into him.

His arms are wrapped around me, and he’s leaning against the half wall behind us for support.

“Okay,” I whisper in return, tipping my head back to look up at him.

The motion makes my vision tilt, so I tip my head back down.

Luke helped me finish off that first drink, and we’ve each had two since.

Or was it three?

Lips press against the top of my head. And my hummingbird sways in my chest, making me feel drunker than I am.
