Chapter 60

Natalie

On the wayto the airport, I smooth the marriage certificate across my lap.

I want to keep it.

I want to just stay married to Luke Anders, a man of strength and humor. A man who makes me smile as much as he makes me swoon.

A man I could love.

A man I might already be falling for.

But I can’t do that.

I can’t do that to him.

And I don’t want to marry someone who doesn’t love me. Even if I think that maybe they could.

Not to mention if the board finds out about this. It will just be one more reason for them not to trust me to lead. Even if all the other reasons are bogus, I don’t need to hand them ammo.

And if my dad finds out I accidentally got married to a famous hockey player because I was drunk in public, that might be enough to make him second-guess giving me control of the company. And I’ve worked too hard, for too long, to just let my future go.

So, I can’t stay married to Luke.

And no one can ever know it happened.

Princess: Landed, Lukey.

Luke: Woman, you are not behaving.

Princess: You didn’t marry me because I behave, Hubby.

Luke: There’s my girl.

Princess: Byeeeeeee.

Luke: Have a good meeting. I’ll let you know when I’m back in Minnesota.

Luke: Landed.

Princess: Back at LAX. Will tell you when I get to Chicago.

Luke: Have a safe flight.
