Does anyone at St. Luke’s know what this goddess is hiding under her lab coat?

Her beautiful blonde hair is styled in waves that tease her tan shoulders. My eyes travel the length of her until I land on her heels. Her toenails, painted a champagne- pink hue to complement her dress, peek at me from the opening of her nude-colored stilettos. It’s fitting we’re headed to the museum. She’s a fucking work of art.

“Hi.”

“Hi.” My voice crackles as she comes closer. I’m overcome by this woman. It’s not simply her beauty. But watching her bloom. Every time I see her, she shares something new and unexpected with me—whether it’s her thoughts, her desires, her heart, her beauty, or her pain. “Poppy, you’re stunning.”

“Awe, you make me feel likePretty Woman.” She giggles.

“Julia Roberts has nothing on you, Pop.”

She reaches for my lapels and pulls me into her, placing a chaste kiss to my cheek.

“You ready?”

“Yes. So, what do you have planned for this date exactly?”

“I plan to do all I can to impress you.”

“We’ll see.” She smirks.

Opening the door for her, she slides into the back seat of the town car. After rounding the rear of the vehicle, I join her. “Porter, this is Poppy. Poppy, this is Andrew Porter. I don’t think I introduced you before. We’ve been together for a long time. If you need anything, he’s your man.”

“Thank you, sir. Nice to meet you, Poppy.” As Porter pulls off, I take Poppy’s hand in mine. Bringing her wrist to my lips, I give her a gentle peck. The fragrance she’s wearing reminds me of the day in the cafeteria when I lost control, and I chuckle.

“What’s so funny?”

“It sounds creepy. But I like the way you smell.”

Poppy’s cheeks turn the sweetest shade of pink. “I have to admit something.”

Uh oh. “Go on.”

“As appalled as I seemed the day you said that to me, I’ve replayed it in my head about one hundred times.”

Turning to her, I bury my face in her blonde locks, nuzzling her neck. “Thank god. Because I don’t think I’m going to be able to help myself today. Do you have any idea how much restraint I’ve had to use around you so far?”

I notice a shy smile cross her face before she turns to look out the window. My gut tells me she hasn’t heard compliments nearly enough. Is this just since her husband died? Or has she been waiting to be adored for even longer?

“So, you aren’t letting me in on where we’re going?”

“No big fancy surprises really. I just wanted the evening to be all about you.”

Poppy’s brows pinch together as if she’s unsure what that means.

“NoPretty Womanstuff. I’ll save taking you to shop and model clothes for me for another time.” I laugh, trailing my finger along the satiny contours of her dress as it caresses her curves. “Besides. It appears you don’t need any help from me.”

“Why, thank you. I’m glad you like it.” She giggles. “I can’t explain it, Broadie. But that trip did wonders to boost my confidence.”

This statement makes me feel proud. That I unknowingly gave that to her. Although it will be little consolation if she ever figures out what I did. It’s my turn to look out the window, my guilt causing me unease. I only need a few more dates with her. Once she gets to know me, I’ll confess everything.

And pray she’ll forgive me.

“We’re here, sir.” Porter pulls up at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and I hop out to escort Poppy inside.

I watch as she looks toward the door. “Wow. I wasn’t expecting this.”

“In honor of starting your art class, thought this could provide some inspiration.”
