“I know, sweetie. Me too. But we need to figure out how to handle this. Because it wouldn’t be fair to ruin what you’ve found with him over a rumor.”

“What rumor?” a male voice asks.

My gaze pops up to see Kat’s husband, Nick, and a very attractive man about their age at his side.

Kat reaches for my hand, giving it a squeeze. “Poppy, this is Huggie. Huggie, my friend, Poppy.”

“Hi. Sounds like we walked in on something intense. Should I go?” Huggie asks as he reaches for a glass and begins to pour himself some tea.

“Poppy. I think we should tell them. See what they recommend.”

I can feel the color drain from my face at the thought of hearing any confirmation this could be true. Not to mention, sharing all of my dirty laundry with these men.

Kat nods as if asking permission to share.

Giving her an eye roll before nodding my approval, I drop my forehead onto the table in utter misery.

“There’s a rumor going around the ER. About one of the doctors at St. Luke’s. A doctor Poppy’s just started seeing.”

Nick pulls up a chair beside his wife, appearing to be all ears.

Looking up at Huggie, she continues, “Poppy hasn’t dated since her husband died. And this doctor has come on hot and heavy. But she hasn’t seen much of him since their first sleepover.”

“Oh, shoot me now,” I groan.

I feel a hand rub my back at my utterance and look up to see Nick giving me a concerned look.

“We were just wondering if there’s any way short of confronting him to find out if the rumors are true.”

“What rumors?” Nick asks.

“That Dr. Weston goes to sex clubs for women.”

Huggie begins to choke on his drink as simultaneously, Nick’s eyes go wide.

“Didn’t see that one coming, huh?” Kat grimaces.

“Would that be a deal breaker?” Huggie asks seriously.

“Um, are you kidding?” I ask him. “I don’t want to start a relationship with a man who’s sleeping with other women, much less at a sex club.”

Huggie’s expression is odd.

Why would anyone think that would be okay? I mean, if that’s what he’s into, that’s fine.Okay, it’s not fine. I don’t want that to be what he’s into. But then why initiate anything with me? Is this all a game to him?

“Maybe that was before.”

Kat and Nick turn to look at their friend before returning to peer at me, neither agreeing nor disagreeing with the possibility.

I guess I can’t judge him for what happened before. Unless he was into some kink I’d be weirded out by. But how would I ask him about this? I mean, this isn’t the type of question you’d find in a ‘getting to know your date’ manual.

“I wish there was a way to know for sure. Because this situation is bigger than I’m prepared to live with. At least without having some answers.”

“You know…” Kat says, tapping her finger against her chin.

“Uh oh,” Nick interjects. “The last time you had that look, poor Bella ended up dancing on stage at Daddy Rabbits for amateur night.”

Uh, what?
