“Wait. You never answered the sex question. Want to elaborate?”

“Look behind you. There is a man in the kitchen. He’s been waiting patiently to talk to you while we were chatting. I’m sure he will service your needs.”

“Are you fucking kidding me right now, Oliana?” I turned to find Damon leaning against a wall, watching my interplay with Oliana. “How long have you been spying on us?”

His intense green eyes bore into mine, and my pulse jumped. “Since the two of you were discussing belt materials.”

I whipped my head around and glared at Oliana. “That was over twenty minutes ago. He’s been in my loft for nearly half an hour, and you said nothing? What kind of spy are you?”

“The kind that wanted your lover to hear our conversation.”

“He isn’t my lover.”

“I’ll leave the two of you to sort out your relationship status.” She strode to me, kissed me on the cheek, and then waved to Damon before stepping onto the elevator.

“How did you make it past my security when you’re on the do not allow in list? And what do you want?”

Instead of answering my questions, he said, “You need to be more aware of your surroundings.”

“My personal mafia queen assassin would have handled it. Now answer the questions.”

“Do you understand what it means to become a member of the Dominik circle?”

“Probably better than being part of the Morelli circle. Why are you here, Damon?”

“To apologize.”

“And.”

“And I know how to navigate around private personnel.”

“Fine, let me hear it.” I folded my arms across my chest.

“Won’t you look at me?”

“No. Get on with it.”

I couldn’t look at him when I only wished to feel his arms around me again, to calm this chaos around me.

He wasn’t who I thought he was. I couldn’t depend on him. He wasn’t my safe place anymore.

“I’m sorry.”

I nodded, released a deep breath, and pointed to the elevator. “You said it. Goodbye, Mr. Pierce.”

“Don’t you want to know what I’m sorry for?”

I closed my eyes, feeling that pull toward him. I wanted him, needed him, and he’d broken my heart, shattered it into pieces. I refused to live through it again.

“Say it. I’m tired. I want to go to bed.”

“I’m sorry for not believing you to know what you wanted, not trusting you to make your decisions. I shouldn’t have taken away your choices. I made a lot of mistakes with us. I’m sorry.”

“Okay.” I swallowed, unsure what else to say, with the war of emotions churning through my body.

I pivoted toward the stairs leading to the open bedroom as if in slow motion.

Damon stepped in my path right when I was about to pass him. “That’s it.”
